For me, Rebellion was evil. The interface seemed to be designed specifically to prevent you from doing anything.
I enjoyed Settlers 3, but I enjoyed Settlers 2 more. It would be great to see a S2 style sequel in the future.
Finally, this bump is surely a keeper. Just 4 years, 2 months and 10 days later.

The record was only held for 4 hours. I think he was ripped off too.

Back on Topic:
Sim Ant, Sim Coaster. The two worst ones I've had the pleasure of playing.
Though when one of the humas said, "I should be doing my homework" in Sim Ant, we couldn't help laughing at my roommate and avid lazy college student at the time since he was showing us this "great" game.

Here's what you need to do:
goto www.settlers4.com or www.siedler4.de (if you're German ), and post tons of posts in the forum, about how good S2 was, compared to S3 + S4... I'm doing this already (mostly in the english forum though )...
If enough people does this, Settlers 3D might be more like S2 instead of S3... (You're got the rights to hope, don't you )

That game had SOOOOOOOOOOO much potential. The music alone was an order of magnitude above any other similar game. The fact that you could lose a battle, or many battles and still win the game was revolutionary.
The lack of unit control and the fact that units could (and amost always did) occupy the same few squares of land was a major problem, as was the extremely weak ai.
I played a game where I started as the humans, destroyed every sector except for London and got the constructor there to start building a factory. I then changed side to the Martians (by changing the savegame from humans to martians) and did the same to them. Every pod that landed I destroyed. I proceeded from my 1-sector empire to expand as fast as I could. It ended up that I controlled almost all of England (30+ sectors), while the humans at their height controlled 7 sectors.
Still, the game was fun.

Hmm, no one here has stated the obvious: MarkG was back then posting from a Guest account and not yet registered. Since everyone seems to ignore Guest posts automatically, you'll have those ignored even when you're logged out. Why he wasn't registered in first place is another matter.
Anyway, back on topic. I liked Anno1602, although it's a bit simple. Hope that 1503 is better. I hear 1602 was originally targeted to German market as a half-price game, which in no doubt explains a lot of simplicity.
But Settlers series should not ever be in any worst game discussion IMHO. Maybe this recalls back to the days of S1, which I played through countless long nights. S2 was excellent too, but it had its own issues and could have had more or better chosen new stuff. Good and compact campaign though. Then again, S3 is very good in its own right, but it loses some Settlers feeling, when concentrating to war-related concepts and removing some of its prequels' careful empire building and resource management. Thus I quickly lost interest in S3 expansion packs and didn't bother with S4 at all (except for the demo, which is actually kinda cool). Haven't really looked their new projects, but of course anything Settlers-related from Bluebyte is always positive.

I once saw Settlers 2 for sale on a bargain bin but I never got that game... I thought that I already had a lot of empire-building games to play. But it seems to be good, judging from what you guys are saying about it...

Malkari - even EB wouldn't take it off my hands when I tried to get rid of it last month.

i also played the demo, and it was well nigh unplayable, IIRC.
I also tried a demo of something called ancient empires, something like a civ clone but without goodie huts and other features. It was pretty bad IIRC.

probably the worst empire builder ive purchased. Though i still got my moneys worth - i bought it used for about $10 US, and played enough to justify that. But it was far less gripping than the TBS games ive played, or even city builders like Simcity or Caesar3. I might go back to it some day, but i would hope 1503 is better.

Ok here is my short list:
Outpost
Starwars Rebellion
Malkari
Dominion
Lands Of Lore III
Star Control 3
Conquest Earth
Deadlock
Fragile Allegiance
R4TS (the last one)
I would vote in defense of Ascendancy as it was lame, but had some cool features as opposed to games that you could not even play.
Also I enjoy Pax II
I think Outpost was the most disappointing to me, the others were not surprises.
I will say I tried to give Rebellion to three different friends and they all brought it back.
