I liked both games, but I think neither of them were perfect. But 1 game's shortfalls are sometimes nicely corrected by the other, so maybe the best thing to do is merge them both.

So what we need to do here is decide which is best from each game to create the perfect CIV game.

From CTP:
Graphics
Plot (I prefer the history to scifi)
Unconventional units
Stacking
Public Works (Can't stand formers!)

From SMAC:
Unit Movement
Wonder Movies
City Screen
Unit combat (esp. hit points)
Diplomacy options
Borders
Manual

That's off the top of my head, so what does anyone else want to add?

I say bring back the 7 wonder format from the original civ's. Should be easy since you can have 64 I think. Since I like many of the new wonders they added maybe they organize it something like the 7 monumental(structural) wonders of a time period and also the 7 cultural wonders of a time period. That would give us 14 wonders per time period.

Bring back the antechamber (I posted stuff on this before somewhere)

Plus Don't forget the trade from CTP. Opps looks like my makefile just finished. Need to go back to work. I'll post more if/when I have the time.

CTP's 2D world is better than SMAC's 3D world (I think).

Also if someone could figure out how to make a round world that would kick ass.

Don't forget about the trade system in CTP, which is great. But I have to say I prefer SMAC's 3D world. CTP's combat screen is fun to see. That's what I can think of now.

No, no more city screen for me. I like the 2D graphic of CTP than 3D of SMAC

After playing SMAC I played CivII and the 2D-grafs, left me cold. I have seen many pictures of CTP and AFAIK the grafs in CTP are similiar (but, better compared to CivII).
So I have to vote for SMAC. I like the 3D-style. It brings so much more feeling.

If this mix-game were to have an energy production, like in SMAC, then 2D wouldn't work at all.

Would definately have to include a governments option similar to SMACs. I like CTP's expanded government types from CivII, and I also like CTP's rations/wages/workday sliders, but the Social Engineering in SMAC is a better overall idea - something similar to that would be nice.

In fact, you could have a few more categories, instead of the 4x4 choices. Economics is an obvious category, but also Government type, Individual Liberty settings, and maybe others?
