the joys of single production.
Last night I started a 1x1x game with Berzerker, Finbar, Bird, and ComMaster. Other than the AC by 1 A.D. thing it was the first non-diplo 1x1x mp game I had been in for a very long time. It was niceto know in 4000 B.C. that I still had a chance to win een though I didn't get 3 whales and gold at my starting location. I wandered around a bit, found a decent site, (all be it not outstanding), and was actually 2nd on the power graph at the nights end, although it is a fairly close game, with only civ laging much behind the pack.

x1x1 is much more fun to play and it's not such slow as many of x2x1 players claims. You may do fun stuff with crusaders, catapults and pikemen just fine.
All of my modern era games were with x1 production (bombers, armors, battleships).
In short,if you guys planning to start another x1x1 game in future, please send me a note.

It's CornMaster not ComMaster and I know the stupid barbs took out my southern cities and stopped me from building for 10 + turns. 2 archers and 4 horseys against 2 warriors and a settler in a size 1 city!! Yeah I was doomed. But Fortress of Evil survived and dawned a new beginning for my people and we will once again rise to the top. (And actually I wasn't the last to get Monarchy.

Hehe CornMaster -- I assume that monarchy reference is directed to my idiocy.
Despite my gaffe, though, I'm ok on the powergraph, but running out of room. Not getting Pyramids was a surprise and disappointing b/c I started the wonder pretty early on. No production specials sucks.
Looking forward to continuing. Hope Finbar will let us know whether he captured or killed any of those crickets now that the season has opened. Is that catch and release Finbar?

No Bird my Monarchy reference was towards finbar because I got it before he did. I didn't see the powergraph because it froze on my last turn. Where was I??? First or Second ???
Did anyone take a screen shot of that graph??

Glad we got a little of this game in. I can't continue until next week. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights are ok, but I won't be able to check the thread until Monday night. Gotta go catch some salmon.
Did you catch the powergraph this time CornM?

Yeah I caught the powergraph that time. Just because my Civ has flatlined doesn't mean it's dead. I mean my 3 cities can take your 18 anyday. And I have learned to tame the barbs and cause them to attack YOU!! AH AAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAH.
Anywho....

He he, Y`all still had a chance `till I built the lighthouse.
Somebody needs to build the SSC. Might as well be someone with only 3 cities, CornMaster.

I'm b-a-a-a-a-a-ck. Chee! I've managed to develop a fairly scrubby piece of land, with an absolutely delightful section ripe for development. Except it's a barb hot spot. I've sent troops to clean them out, I've left troops fortified to guard against their return while I develop the area. Of course they arrive - in the square adjacent to my fortified (in trees) troops - and demolish the poor fortified buggers in the same turn. Ah well, it's good for the soul.

Well, I'm squeezed between the Romans and Vikes so my 1st place ranking on the PG (had to get that in) will not last as I look for new land to colonize. But I agree with Matt's assessment, it takes so long to build wonders at 1x, the people who dont get great specials at the start still have a chance to compete. At 2x, the people blessed with specials have such a lead it can be hard to catch up without tech stealing and other provocative tactics...
I can play next week - Mon thru Wed (or earlier) too.

Sorry, Emp, IMHO, 2x prod is for baseball fans - or, in this country, one-day cricket fans - which is to say, people with short attention spans.

LOWANG has changed his forum name to Atomic Dogg
The gods have been generous to emperor LOWANG's Roman empire. The sunrise reflecting off of the gold glittering mountains is breathtaking. The only thing more beautiful is the sunsetting over the other gold glittering mountains. The large influx of the precious metal is sure to make us rich beyond imagination.
The gods also allowed us to build a temple in the great city of ZILLAR before we had knowledge of burying our dead.
Our borders are secure and we do our best to prosper in the harsh conditions that Diety level besets us, but are confident that we shall find our place in the sun.
We offer no harm to the Sheepdogs and hope to develop friendly relations between our peoples. Your people look strangely canine but I'm sure we look strange to you.....

I'm glad some people still like 1x1x games. At the Zone, I'm treated like some sort of leperous Neanderthal!

I' play 1x1x at the zone.
I just post "New, 1x1x" outside, and write "Good game, king, 1x1x" inside the room. I can play with another human, or a couple of them. No more than 4 human players, including yourself, or turns will take ages.
In 15 mins I usually have a game going. If someone wants 2x, I kindly ask him to leave.
It works, and people say "At last: a 1x game"
Good luck to you. Keep on playing 1x1x at the zone.

That's BS Berz; who would abandon their own civ to sub for someone else? Don't wimp out now. (Peer pressure, everyone.)

Berzerker:
Before deciding whether or not to ditch us for the tribe game, there are a few questions you may want to ask yourself.
1. Will anyone in the tribe game be as pissed at me for not playing with them as Matthew will be If I don't continue our game?
2. Does anyone in the tribe game have any idea where Topeka is?
3. Does anyone from the tribe game live within an hour of Topeka?
4. Do any of these tribe game people have 60 rolls of toilette paper with my name on it?
Just a few things to think about.

Hehe, tough call... Did I ever use my real address in my profile? I cant remember - and I know how pissed Matt must be coming off that Okla/K-S game I did commit to you guys before ever being told about this tribe game, but I did join the tribe and do have some responsibility to sub. Darn, darn, darn...

(I snipped some of Carnide's post for brevity.)
I did that once as an example for a 2x2x fanatic who was complaining that he couldn't get a game launched. I don't often host, because I have a dial-up modem, but I set up a Deity 1x1x game, and in 5 minutes there were 3 other players. Mr. 2x2x was still waiting... LOL!
