Who Is Looking Forward To "The Sims"?
I know I am! Will Wright's "computer toys" have always been great fun to play with and I doubt I'll be disappointed by this new title! What do you think?

It has promise, but I suspect that it may turn out to be basically an electronic dollhouse. If will can make the individual sims complex enough, make them interact with their environment at a more than superficial level, and give them enough things to do it could turn out to be fascinating.

After civ3, this is the game I am anticipating the most. Its SimPeople, and I'm as excited as it is possible to be about a time-management sim. The amount of R&D thats gone into the game is immense. Definitely looking forward to this one.

You're not a shareholder in the Sim company are you hoot? Or a marketing mole...

Seriously, looks interesting to me as well. I've enjoyed most of the earlier Sim games as well so I imagine I'll also like this one.

Well, I bought "The Sims" yesterday. I only played for a couple of hours last evening, but I have to say, this game looks like it will be A LOT of fun.

This sounds like the ultimate game for all the voyeuristic, God wannabes out there.

Will we be able to watch them go to the toilet, and have sex?

Bkeela,

That's actually a rather funny feature of the game. Since you can see then entire house including the toilet and shower or tub, what do you do when the Sims need to use these facilities? Maxis' answer is to obscure your view of the Sim just like they do on TV to obscure the identity of an individual. Love making is not shown, not even obscured.

That's dissapointing. I mean, I'm not interested in half hearted sims.
Maybe they will release an adults only version?

Bkeela.

p.s What are the requirments? Do you need a 3d card?

Sims is getting me addicted! Just got it today and man... I got it from EBWorld, so I got the Sid Meier skin... pretty funny to see Sid be a Nurse.

Bkeela,

If you buy The Sims from EBWorld you get some free "skins", graphics that customize the appearance of your Sims, one of which looks like Sid Meier.

Each Sim can choose a career track from a limited set, medical is one such track, so it's inevitable that at some point Sid would be a nurse. LOL!

BTW, for anyone who is in to such things, the built in home designer is pretty sophisticated, it's possible to design a pretty good copy of your own home. And Maxis has a Skin Tool, you can take pictures of yourself and your family and import the skins into the game and play your own family in your own home.

I got the game yesterday and plan on spending some serious time on it tomorrow. I made a sim of my wife and I and started off in some house that cost $10 grand. Well, I went through an entire day and didn't speak a word to her the entire time, which probably explains why I couldn't get both of us to sleep in the same bed! I also totally blew the carpool for my job (just because I personally can get up and out of the house in 20 minutes doesn't meant that my sim can!) and probably lost my job: I don't know as I quit the game out of disgust. Well, not really, but that is more interesting than saying my (real) wife came home.

The Sims is yet another game that will cry out for mods, expansion packs, and totally brand new versions. I've already downloaded a few new houses and a slot machine from their web site, but I'm surprised that the site wasn't totally finished this morning and is actually down as I write this.

If you like games where you don't kill stuff, if you like the idea of controlling people's very lives, or if you're a big fan of Maxis, this game is totally worth it. There is something about The Sims that can bring out both the Mother Theresa and the Stalin (Djugashivili? ) in you at the same time. But I seriously didn't mean to ignore my wife... did I?
