btw, there are several extras on the official site already (such as moosehead, cuckoo clock, slot machine and extra skins for your sims) that won't be in your package when you buy it in the store...

Be sure to get it from the site

Cheers

The CNN.com report on The Sims say that with all the product updates, by the end of the year the program codes from the CD will only be 20% of the total program.

They said that Will will slip product code updates with each product add-on, fixing things and introducing new things! They even mentioned an extra Social rating!

I think this game will continue to remain awesome as long as they keep up with the free downloads and introduce new expansion packs. Even with a 150 items on the CD release it is quite possible to get bored of them quickly. My sim is now a security guard...hehehe...

Personally, I think they should slow the game down so the sims can have time for parties and fun. I know it's realistic to have no time for fun but I already have my own life for that.

Better yet, ppl should have the choice to either play games like this or to slow them down, if they so desire...

BTW, 10 minutes to walk to the toilet, which is only 15 seconds away IRL, and then taking 20 minutes to take a dump is not realistic, unless the sim has diarrhea but it's also not realistic to assume they have that every day

With MP, you'd meet actual people. It'd be like a chat room. Hmm. And you raise a family and all that. Wow. That could really work. Cyberfamilies...

Unfortunately, I don't think they can easily patch the game for mp... Maybe they'll create The Sims 2 one day

Ugh, are you kidding me? Most people don't want a family irl! Why would you want a family online? Jeez, I can just hear the wife now..
Where were you? Billy needed to be picked up from soccer practice!
Sorry honey, I was out playing with my friends.
Don't ever let that happen again!

And think of what it would do to your Starcraft 2 ratings! omg!

Well, the great advantage of Sim families is that you can kill them without getting punished...

It would appear that someone has come up with a patch for The Sims that removes the pixelation when the Sims get naked. Check it out. http://stew.zdnet.com/stew.fcgi?purp...thread_id=2875

Sims... I guess I was expecting more.

It gets boring real fast. It's kinda fun a bit longer with the money cheat. things dont always seem to work they way you think they should. Other sims just walk right into your house and help themselfs to your food and bathroom (even if your taking a shower!!!). I set up a family of bums, no jobs, lazy, messy... they still got by just fine and kept a clean house. There's very little time for anything except work and cleaning. I guess this is just like real life but I dont need a game to sim that.

Some good points. The graphics are very nice. On my super 750 system the game runs great. the house building part of the game is tip top (almost more fun than playing the game). The game installed nice and has not crashed. The sim graphics are good - I like how the sims move around. My one tip for new players: buy a bar and get everyone drunk. It really helps relationships.

All in all... on a 1 to 10 scale, I give it a 4. It's a lot like Sim City 3000. Nice graphics but not much game play.

On my super 750 system the game runs great.
On my 450-128 it runs smoothly most of the time, but can get messy with big houses and big families...

Taking that in mind I'd say that it's unplayable on a PII350 or less.

I just got the sims yesterday

Unfortunately I have a amdk6 233 and 32meg ram

It runs fairly well but there's lag sometimes and its slow switching between live and the other modes. I've only tried single sim families so far, I'd hate to think of the problems I'd have with big families and houses

CWizard,

You WILL have a major problem with big houses and/or families...

I tried a big 2 story house with 7 ppl once, and it was really jerky on my machine, not exactly a great joy to play anymore...

But hey, just keep your family small, and live in a trailer, and you'll be fine

I wouldn't say that it is completely unplayable... I have a PII233 with 128RAM and the game is pretty slow to scroll but so far it is still playable.

I can't stand the sims...it is far to slow!
No action, no warmongering going on and no tactics and city bashing.

I guess I am aiming for a higher goal than living a healthy life with a lot of friends around me. I just wanna sit in front of my machine and attack people

You can try and get two sims to absolutely hate one another and then I think they start attacking one another.

Isn't your social rating determined by the amount of interaction with other ppl (be it good or bad)?

I just LOVE The Sims.
I started with a guy I thought represented me rather well.
He turned out to be a total social misfit. He had a budding career in the military (with a beard and long hair!), but he just couldn't make any friends.
Well, I created two women whom I thought would be most charming, in an attempt to get my guy a girlfriend or two...
It couldn't have gone worse. The guy just HATED both of them, in the end refusing even to speak with them. At that point I had both of the women going very well, and neglected my alter ego. Now no sim in the neighborhood likes him, and he's stuck in his crappy military job.
I've started to suspect that he's really a militia member, too paranoid to become friends with anyone...

Finally a few quick tips.

The chess set is a very useful item to have.
Just set it in a room with lots of light and space, with two chairs, then invite someone over, and start playing. If you can get your friend to join, it's going to enhance your Logic skill, comfort, social and fun, all in one fell swoop.

I don't know if anyone else had a problem with this, but make sure you have a kitchen desktop with space free, otherwise you can't make fancy meals...

If you have people ringing your door and you don't answer, make sure you don't make it a habit. I did that to people I didn't like the look of (shallow, I know...), and when I finally did greet such a person, he promptly proceeded in slapping my Sim, as the first thing after we shook hands! My poor Sim was devastated, and her social rating went down a lot...

PS. And no, I have no life of my own!
