Clash of the Titans...
Ok, Monsieur Kcbob!
Let the game begin.
White: Carolus Rex, a very rusty challenger
Black: Kcbob, an excellent college champ
Crowd: Smash
1. e2-e4
Smash takes on the winner?

Swell, just what we need, Carolus. A ringer.
Smash... you played in the American open? I'm impressed. Seriously. My house payment offer is void after my first game, in that case. Heck, I might have to void it anyway depending on how badly CR is kicking my butt.

Ok, I suggest we keep the post with the moves "clean" and post our comments and harassments in separate ones. That way we can use the "reply with quote"-feature for the actual game. Or better yet, editing in our moves in one single post?
Kcbob I think you're the editing champ with that one, at least it looks like a strong contender.
American Open? A World Championship then if we apply the logic from basketball, baseball etc...
Edited: On with the English lesson. A ringer?

Good idea. I don't care what they say, you're pretty sharp, Carolus.

A ringer is someone brought in to compete in a sporting event but who far surpasses the skill level of the opponents. For example, the Swedish national soccer team convinces Pele (in his prime) to play for them. It's not bad when it's your team bringing in the ringer. When you have to play against a bunch of ringers, you're in trouble.

"Good idea. I don't care what they say, you're pretty sharp, Carolus."
Who are "they? Which thread is making fun of me, is there an e-mail list I can join (under a different handle of course!)?
I see that my point about harassing in separate posts got through all right...

Make that two horses off to McDonald's. I could of course have posted "two" earlier, but I don't want to give anything away in this game.
"As the White Queen slowly inspected the field she now was dominating, a feeling of satisfaction slowly absorbed her. Because everywhere she looked she saw nothing but trembling creatures of the Black Civilization. She sensed their fear, she inhaled it, and an evil smile was discernible on her face. Everything was as she expected it to be..."

"Aye", she said to herself. "I better push the last of the black knights off the board. The way that poor creature looks I reckon' I will do him a favour anyway. Savages! Don't they even feed their own horses?"
 |
"And so it was that the evil White kingdom continued to harass the poor peace loving folk of the other side of the board... who only wanted to be left alone, only wanted to live free, only wanted to feed their horses. A bishop, a member of the clergy began to meddle in the affairs of the Blacks. And in response, they answered meekly, sending forth a mere pawn to beg for mercy."

Carolus, if you'd rather I not interact with the kibutzers, just say the word and I'll devote my entire attention (well, most of it ) to the game.
But, in the meantime, Smash, I'm curious (and hopefully not too defensive sounding). Was my c6xd4 dubious enough to warrant a '?' in the notation? And more to the point, why would you consider it dubious? As Black, I don't mind trading pieces early in the game to slow White's attack. If I took with the pawn, I would have expected White to take with the knight, I would take with the knight, White would take with the Queen, and voila... same position. If I support with my Queen's pawn, d7-d6, White moves his Queens pawn forward, d4-d5 and my side of the board becomes a bit cramped.
Don't get me wrong. I love this banter back and forth. Maybe a better question from me might be 'What have I missed?' Perhaps the original descriptions of the two contestants was backwards. That's a definite possibility!
