The reason I don't post more frequently is that I'm submitting a paper to a conference, dead line is September 1...

If you'd like to take a few days off from the game, that would not be a problem. Don't jeopardize the paper. BTW. If I might ask, what's the subject and what's the conference?

kcbob and Carolus Rex. You guys are making this one had to follow without a board in front of me. It's been over 30 years since I played blindfold on a daily basis and I don't think in this new-fangled notation that you are using. I have to translate all the moves one at a time and it louses up my mental picture of the board.

And Smash my last published rating is from 1973 and was 1150 - 1200 or somewhere there about. I was almost always somewhere in the first 5-6 boards for the first round of a 5 round Swiss. Top of the bottom half plays top of the top half. Your game improves real quick or your rating sinks like a rock.

Ken, believe me this new notation is killing me, too. I've never played a game using it before. I do have a small board in front of me here at work but I'm hoping that if I screw up, Carolus will be kind enough to tactfully point it out to me.

I never had a rating. My guess is that I would have been somewhere around 2500 +/- 2400.

I'll tell you this about the current game. Carolus is about to go up a pawn and has a solid position. My only hope is that when I knock over my board... oh, wait. That won't work. Rats! Now I'm in trouble!

You have a board at work, too?!?! No fair! I thought I was the only one that was gonna cheat, so to speak.

BTW. Is your paper finished? And what's the subject/title? Would I understand it even if you told me?

LOL, there is no such thing as a finished paper!

Thesis advisor to Carolus Rex: "This is a good paper!"
Carolus Rex [surprised]: "Really???"
Thesis advisor: "Sure! It just has to be rewritten."

I've submitted it to the organisers, so in one sense it is finished. No more work on it for a while (except for preparing the presentation).

Maybe not from the title alone, but the economic intuition behind the formal model is pretty straightforward.

Enough about boring papers, on with the game!

Carolus

Did you get that?

Bc5-d6

Sorry 'bout that. The server was going so slow that I kept backing out not realizing that the move was posted. Anyway, in case you didn't get it, Bc5-d6.

BTW. I just realized today that the Smilies Legend to the side shows you the various combinations you can use for them. Duh!

Oh, and did I mention? Bc5-d6?

Later.

I'm sure he is deep in analsys of the position which looks lively.

Is this supposed to be blindfold?????? There is NO way I can play blindfold.Although some of my games may look as though I did.

Smash,

I was refering to my situation trying to follow their game. I'm having to do it without the benefit of a board and the mental gymnastics of translating between this "new and improved" notational system and the old one that I learned keeps trashing the my mental picture of the board.

Waaay back when I was a Junior and Senior in High School, Carolus - Your Gymnasium, I believe; a friend and I used to play blindfold chess during the 2 mile walk from his house to school. We would suspend the game during school and pick it up after school about 8 hours later. Play on the way home and if needed suspend it again until the next morning or over the weekend. I had been a fairly active player for the 5 years prior to HS and during my HS years in addition to the blindfold games, I played at lunch, at our school chess club, and in an informal group that met after school every day for an hour in one of the chemistry classrooms. I stayed active until 1975 when I had to drop the game all together until about a month ago when I started playing in an employee tournament at work. That has all but collapsed. Last week I entered my first on-line tournement and started playing my first real chess since 1975.

Heh, heh, heh... I can only agree (on my own games! )...

Ken, a chess tournament on-line sounds like fun! Any good sites out there that you know of? Too bad MP, eh..., I mean my thesis takes so much time already...

I only played one game in a serious "blindfold" mode. I was holding my own about this far into the game. In fact, I believe I was up by a bishop or knight. Anyway, at this point I said "I give up. I can't go any further blindfolded." I turned around, looked at the board, and wondered where this game came from. It sure wasn't the one I was playing in my head!

We sure have gotten quiet with our sidebar comments. To liven things up again (and hopefully to disturb your concentration on the game ), do you follow American football? This is the first weekend of the new season and we are all about to die with anticipation.
