Up-coming Game: Black & White
For all of you who have been waiting patiently for the up-coming release of this much anticipated game, here is a video to download to wet the appetite. This is not an intro movie as you may at first think, it is actually the game.
For the video: http://cgi.pcgameworld.com/pcgw/quic...citmardemo.mpg
For more information about Black & White: http://www.thecitadel.net/knowledge/newbie_guide.cfm
My source is the excellent "The Citadel" fan page.

p.s Who needs cliched civ games when a game like this is coming out?

I take it no one has much interest? The Sim's thread's had more attention. I guess you'll all jump on the bandwagon when the rave reviews arrive.

From the description on the manufacturer's website, it sounds too much like a revamped version of "Populous",
not one of my favourite games.

Black & White seems very interesting to me. But! If it turns anything like Populous it's a game I'll be passing on. I'll wait and see, I guess.

Its sounds like an RTS. Even so it looks like it has some merits.

This game was the main attraction at the old E3. I don't know squat about Populous, but from what I read about Black and White, though I'm not sure quite how it works, it doesn't sound like quite my cup of tea. You are a God and you get to behave in all sorts of ways, but they say that you can't incite a Holy War! COME ON!! However, what you do get to do is have your earthly vessel (some kind of creature, dpeending on your style and choice) go around either helping people or eating them. As a result the people could either come to rely on you to the point of laziness, or fear you horribly. I may check out the demo, but I doubt I'll pay 50 dollars for it.

I also didn't like Populous very much, and although B&W shares some aspects that Populous had, it will definately be an entirely new kettle of fish.
I think it's best to view B&W as a lush virtual world: you can zoom out to behold the entire land area, and zoom in for minute details. Your goal seems to be the welfare of your particular tribe, and in swaying the other tribes out of the control of rival gods. The interesting thing is that you can do this in an evil way, or by good.
I simply can't wait for this game.

The Populous series were OK, but not as addictive as Civ, I thought. I'll probably get B&W, and hope the similarities to Populous are less potent than whatever "new" features are there.
Anyone know what the projected release date is for B&W?
