More Wood Pushing
By hook or by crook I have managed a win over Carolus Rex to assume the unofficial championship. Now a new contender,Julius Brenzaida is banging on the door demanding an opportunity for fortune and glory. And so he shall have his chance. This could be another short reign.

That's right. Kasparov wouldn't play for less than a few millions of dollars.

I've not been aware of the Smashing world series. Perhaps Maxxes (who had a short win over reismark) should bring himself over from the OTF. Seems to be a pool of distinguished wood-pushers from that thread eg vik and MtG.

I've jus trecently gotten back in to playing chess, since I play during EOP (Educational opportunity period) twice a week at my school. It's a fun way to pass 40 mins or so. So how's this notation work? Chessmaster doesn't tell you how they do it

Arrgghh!! Whatever happened to a simple Giouco Piano? Or Queen's Gambit? No wonder I got waxed in my first game. All I know is "White 1. 'x'4"
BTW. I have the prize money for the ACL (Apolyton Chess League nee Anterior Cruciate Ligament) safely tucked away in a "lock box" awaiting the results from Florida. It will be released and distributed to all concerned parties immediately after President Pat Buchanan's inauguration speech.

I had proposed some rules for the championship, here they are. Otherwise, we may organize a tournament.
a1)Every game played on the Apolyton Chess Club entitles the winner to be crowned King/Queen of the World Civchess Federation (WCC).
a2) if there is a draw, the champion retains his title.
b1) The King/Queen immediatly defends his/her title against a new challenger.
b2) the challenger chooses the side he wants to play with.
c1) The new challenger is the first new Apolytiner to step up.
c2) If there's no new challenger, an old one can step up again.
d1) Every moves of the game are played on the Apolyton "Other Games" forum.
d2) There is no time limit, but the players try to play at least a move a day.
d3) Everybody is free to comment on the game, but giving moves to one of the player can result in being declared inelegible for the WCC title.
d4) A arbitration court of three people rules. The three people are chosen before the start of a WCC game. Their decisions, taken at the majority of two, cannot be appealed.

JB: That real quick organising! The only question I have is on the rule:
quote:

d2) There is no time limit, but the players try to play at least a move a day.
 |
I think it might be advisable to specify an upper limit as we may get the situation where the whole champoionship is held up indefinitely because of some unexpected absence by one of the contestants, which is always a possibility in such e-forums!

Isn't Apolyton by chance going to be International CivChess site ? Anyway, these positions are quite fun - but even yet nice to see that civers hadn't forgotten how to play chess .

Latvia !
The fatherland of chess genius and world champion Mikhail Tal. I wonder if he would like my position, though. Smash is building some nice defensive pawn chain. "Guerre de tranchées" as we would say in french, typically Petrossian.
As I am in school, with no chessboard avalaible, I'm not going to make any hasty move and I'm only going this evening (European Time).

Kcbob, the great Fischer used to play white this way against the great Petrossian. The game ended up with a draw, with 4 queens on the board. I just saw that in the school's library, which own a Fischer's book. They never have what I need for my students, but chess books, yes they do !
Unfortunately, my 6th move, g3, was not favored by Bobby and we're not following the game anymore. It's, I think, all new theory, now.
