Isn't Apolyton by chance going to be International CivChess site ? Anyway, these positions are quite fun - but even yet nice to see that civers hadn't forgotten how to play chess .
|
Didn't forget to play ? Wait for a big blunder and we'll talk about it again !
I'd almost totally stopped playing in favour of games like civ2, and now, thanks to that same civ2, I again play a chess game. Maybe that someone, somewhere is making some design ...

I think it might be advisable to specify an upper limit as we may get the situation where the whole champoionship is held up indefinitely because of some unexpected absence by one of the contestants, which is always a possibility in such e-forums!
|
You are quite right indeed. So far all the contestants have proved worthy of trust, but one one should always imagine, while making rules, that the worst can happen.
My suggestion : "if a player does not play a move for a week or does not excuse himself in advance for his silence, he forfeits the game. If one repeatidly slows down the game, he could be, after a warning, disqualified". Does it sound fair to you ?

I hate my position so I'm sure Tal would love yours .Lesson learned:don't make book moves in a out of book position at 3am.
I will post if I am going to "disappear" provided it isn't some tech problem that prohibits me from going online.

What ?
It's already page 2 of this thrilling contest !
Smash, if you're looking for my move, it's on the 1st page and it's 11 Rg1. An obvious one, this time.
And no, it's not a queen move ! I could have played 11 Qd4, but it just didn't look right.

Good queen moves ? I’m not sure. It looked pretty so I couldn’t stop myself from playing it. But it’s either brillant or stupid, because 10 Qd4 and 10 Rg1 were simple and good.
You didn’t accept the exchange sacrifice after 10 Na6, 11 Qxb7 Rb8, 12 Qxa6 Qxh1. We’ll have a lot to talk about after the game.

Sorry Smash.
There’s been a lot of work this last few days and also some cooler occupations than taking care of this game. I will reply this evening or tomorrow morning, Central European time at the latest.
Qd5-e5-c7 ! You’ve found out a nice queen manoeuver of your own.

Great to have that diagram Smash. Now a quick kibitz assessment. White has the advantage it seems: - *Space to maneuvre
*Two bishops (both mobile) vs Black's cramped knights
*Superior development
Black's K side weakened by absence of black Bishop - looks like a Q-side castling as well.

Nice Kibbitzing, Tonic !
I agree with your comments, but chess is not about concepts, but move. My position looks great, but what do I play to gain or keep the advantage. Smash is solid as a rock, and I don’t see no easy break-through.
The more I’ve looked at it, the less I am convinced by my play. We’ll see what happens

Smash don’t be too harsh with yourself. I agree that 6 Bb4 was a mistake, but my queen manoeuver what not easy to foresee. And all your other moves looked good and some very good to me. We’ll have quite a few things to say when we analyze ! I’ve seen a lot of very nice variations, but there is (almost) always an escape line for you.
