Civ and CTP are dead, long live Europa Universalis...
The game is simply magnificant... Highly addictive... Re-playability is incredible...

Civ is not dead, not in my mind at least. (CtP was never alive so that's a different story)

Europa Universalis is a wonderful game, and it might even be right up there with Civ, but the two games are different enough that there will always be room for both, IMO.

Civ surely isn't dead, but Eu sure is gaining popularity, isn't it? If this keeps up, before you know it EU will need it's own forum, right Imran? *wink, wink*

Well, at the very minimum, Civ2 has become boring to play.

For now at least.

Eitherway, it's a damn good accomplishment by Paradox.

Actually Imran this is already the fifth EU thread. And without any AAR's yet either. Pretty soon they'll have to give us our forum!

[ Edit: Actually, now that I think about it, has anyone enough experience/playing time yet to write one? It'll need its own thread of course ]

I have been playing EU for a few months now but I just can't bring myself to write an AAR. I mean, it must be sooo much effort trying to keep track of everything else that is going on in the world too.

I hope they fix the badboy thing soon.

I had actually wondered if EU will replace Civ2 on my limited, rotated playlist (CtP1/2 should not even have been born). I don't think so, but it'll be a while before I play another Civ2 scenario. I think the reason why Civ2 will remain is that I can play an ancient empires or an ACW scenario. I can't do that with EU.

Well, I still haven't gotten EU yet. I wonder though, could an enterprising, highly skilled omputer whiz hack the end date of the game, then edit in a few items to make the game stretch on into the 19th century? He would have to add in a few special events to represent the effect of the French Revolution, the arrival of Napoleon, the essential rebelliousness of the post-Napoleonic era, the appearence of communism and anarchism, then the tendency towards the rise of the new nation states. Also, I am under the impression that the evolution of military technology is simulated in EU by the granting of Land and Naval technology bonuses. To carry the game into the 19th century you'd need 2 more bonuses of each. You'd also need new economic and production bonuses to simulate the industrial revolution, and some additional features to simulate the growth of railroads.

Hmmmm, maybe this can't be done. Anyone in favor of petitioning for an expanded version of the game?

Now, if only there were someway of extending it to antiquity.
