Super Growth strat.
Here is what i have been using lately, its very simple and very effective. I can beat anyones science and tech output with half the cities. Here is step by step what you do.
1. build settlars and go make cities SPACED OUT, connect them by roads.
2. go for monarchy, as soon as you get it irrigate everything and go for trade.
3. once you have trade go for rep, by this time you should have 15 or 16 cities with about 16 settlars. (about 1 ad and all your land should be transformed and irrigated + roads)
4.set your inner cities to build caravans.
5.once in rep send carvans from all your cities into your capitol.
6. Go for mono, build libraries & temples & market places. keep all your cities celebrating with 20% luxeries.
7. go for construction & sanitation. By the time you get them most of your cities should be size 8, then you celebrate your cap up past size 20. Once you have done this ALL the trades routes in EVERY city will grow by one, forcing them to celebrate as well.
8 switch to dem at about 300 AD and you should make $400 gold per turn and 2 turns a tech and by that time your far ahead of everyone else.
Here is a pic of a game i played with carnide today, i am 1 tech from railroad here. I have dem, mono, navigation, economics, university etc. About 20% less cities then everyone else, half the maintaince costs, but double the income and science. In this pic i am making 800 gold a turn, even after my growth was stunted by fighting a major war, in another 10 rounds all those size 12 cities will be size 22.

me carnide moker and some others played a 5 player game. I will post images of the map later but here are the stats.
490 AD
1x 1x king no wonders but apollo, no tech trading or caravans to other civs.
I have 41 cities and 20 settlars, my tech rate and gold is still secret.... Its pretty funny that i have more settlars then some people have cities. A good portion of my cities are approaching size 12(switched to dem 2 turns before this)

hey Markusf, whats your highest score that you've ever made? Because civfanatics.com has a High Score Hall of Fame.
Well the number 1 spot for Diety level in the HOF is by a guy who score 1700%!!!!
I think you could get on the HOF you should send in your stuff if you think you can
I tried your strat and it works very good! :]
O yeah Markusf, do you mind if i put your strat up at the Civfanatics.com War Academy?

Sure put it up.
My highest score was 1300%, 255 cities 1875 ad, diety when my spaceship landed. I got bored and didn't bother building up the rest of my civ. Just the part where it went through what you built for the turn took 10 minutes

Is this with the same rules tech? And what difficulty level for the game posted at top? You didn't mention having Hanging Gardens, and in republic at diety you need either hanging gardens or either less than 8 or more than 23 cities to be able to celebrate well. 16 cities seems to be close to the number at which celebrations just don't happenunder republic at Diety under normal rules text.
I ask because I know you like to play with that Master Diety rules text.
I try something similar, but am not nearly as efficient, and get slowed down quite a bit because I need 24 cities or so to celebrate unless I have the gardens.

And how on earth do you go for trade first and still beat carnide to MC on a regular basis?

1x 1x king no wonders but apollo, no tech trading or caravans to other civs, carnide was hosting with his rules... no changes where made that i know of. Riot factor is a big of a pain on a HUGE map, then again so is having 41 cities.

I've seen this strategy in action and it is impressive.
The key is to get a few of those 20+ size cities quickly. Then you get ahead in the tech tree (2tech a turn) while the other players that are building 30 + cities are still developping their cities and go wack them with those advance units.

I would really appreciate if you could send me the modified graphics files too. Which aspects of the game are the two other files (i.e. not the units, terrain or cities) modifying?
Edited: My email is in my profile.
Thanks,
Carolus

This strat doesn't work quite so well at deity level. The unhappies kill you, even with wonders.

It works on deity IFFFFFFFFF you don't have units away from home, even a lowely trireme, to make that unhappyness. So when in WLPD AH, alls you do is keep your units at home for awhile, then send em out to romp and play later.

Played a test game with arii today using this strat. I had about 12 tech lead on arii, with my implimentation.. I launched a spaceship(33,8,8,1,1,1) at 1700 AD.
1x 1x king. I opened 3 huts all game, one was 100 gold another was 25 gold and the 3rd was empty. no tech trading or stealing....

I got them, thanks!
A question. What happens if I play a MP game and have these graphics files and the other guys' have the originals?
Are they compatible, do the others see my units and cities in the original style whereas I see theirs in the modified format? Or must everyone have the same .gifs?

You will see everyones else's units differently. They don't need your changed pics...
AH, strat works just as good on diety.

The idea here is to have each city make routes to the greatest trade value city in your civ for the largest per turn values over time. This is usually the capital for me.

Gives you over 30% more trade after all is said and done.
When celebrating the capitol over size 20 at 400 AD trade routes to the rest of the civ's big cities become size 6-10 trade routes.. Its makes a huge difference to your income/science each turn.

yes. Trade bonus and trade route are 2 different things.
In a huge game i had with arii a few days ago, i launched a spaceship at 1580 AD 17 cities. Each city after i had grown it up had, 3 trade routes between size 14-22. (no wonders, tech trading etc)
Lets say i every city in my empire has a +3 trade route. and my cap is size 8, when it goes to size 12 every single trade route in every single city will increase by at least one point. When i build super highways in my cap, the trade in nearly every single city doubles.... With 17 cities i was able to maintain a 3 techs every 4 turns for the bulk of the game...

This was a few years after launching the biggest spaceship. The trade routes for every single city in my empire look like this. I have also done some tests, and building wonders etc actually slows me down and delays tech by hundreds of years. Even building the SSC takes way to much effort and its effects are minimal in the long run.

Looks like a great strategy...if you have war early on, does that screw it up? I would think it would. I wouldn't mind those enhanced unit and terrain files either...have you posted them on a website anywhere yet?

Markus.....just a point of clarification please. I thought that you could only create 3 trade routes per city.....are you saying that you create trade routes between all your outlying cities and your capitol? And do you get that 6-10 trade bonus even when there are no special trade items requested?
