its an evil bug which has been around a while. You probably want to restart the game as the editor is accessible for everyone in this game after thre faulty installation has been fixed.

The only cure for the victim is a complete deinstallation of SMAC, including *all* registrty entries, and a reinstall. Preferrably "full install". That worked for me, but don't ask why - i don't know

Mult-Player pbem Started in Editor Mode, please help
Hi everyone. I'm not the host, but in my newsgroup, one of the players in our new game that we just started, posted that he received his turn and that when he loaded it up the editor mode was on. I have a couple of questions concerning this. Is this normal? If not how did it happen? and last How can it be avoided?

Thanking you in advance for you help.

Flo had that problem times ago, and the only way we found to repair it was, to uninstall SMAC complete, delete all registry entries and the files in /windows made by SMAC installation. reboot.
Then install from CD new (complete is not necesssary) and then make minimum 1 turn in a new game *before* you install any patch.
(this will create the .tmp files in the smac directory), then say by dos in the samc directory "attrib -r *.*" and then install the patch.
