Single player victory
Well aftr my fantastic first win against the Darkone, I have also finally compelted my first ever win using Gold Edition of Civ 2 at Prince level... I am sure they changed the AI inbetween Civ 2 and the MPE...
So any way I beat up on 3 AI Civs ( I know most of you do 7 AI on Deity, but I can only handle 3 at Prince, I tend to find that they gang up agaiasnt me and trade techs till they get too far ahead...) and after squashing the English early in gaqme (by 1000BC) I then struggled against the Spanish and Zulus... But with Howitzers discovered in 1782 I was fianlly able to overcome their hordes of Tanks whixh had held me back for centuries...
Felt so good to see that old chopper coming down on the civs, havent seen that since I updated to MP Gold Edition...
So thats one Multi palyer win (by resignation) and one Single player win (by conquest)
My next challenge is to win at King level....
Hope all you experts appreciate all the hard work us lowly players put in

Move up to Emperor level, Raz, it's not that much different to King, IMHO.

I have been experimenting with some of the strategie son the Strategy forum . namely DaveVs ICS strategy and XinYus 5 size 5 city strategy.
I printed out the strategy and followed it word for word...
The settings I used were 7 Civs Large world 125x80 Wet , Tempoerate, large land mass, 3 billion yrs. Deity level. Raging hordes .
Using XinYus strategy I discovered Monarchy well before any size 5 developed and then realised that this strategy really needs good starting point. So I started again, this time I wandered my settlers till they discovered good food source (river) this took till 2850BC by then AI was too big and I quit as his hordes of Chariots stormed my two citys defended only with Unveterna Warriors
next attempt I used DaveVs ICS strategy again same settings..
In his printout it stated "..at deity level you'll need a second warrior in some cities to keep order after your fifth city under despotism or seven under moanarchy..." I found my citys were growing too quick to manage with only warrior and were all in riot before i had tha tmany citys...
Then the AI civs discovered me and declared war and too k3 citys in two turns...
I followed the Strategys to the letter and still cant seem to get this right can anyone please explain better and help me !!!!

The happiness factor is the biggest difference with Deity, IMHO, Raz. You have to monitor your cities closely, anticipating when unhappiness will arise and acting accordingly. Build another military unit or bring an Elvis into play. You can build well beyond the limit (of cities before revolt) in Despotism and Monarchy providing you monitor them closely and anticipate accordingly. And, of course, each city is contributing at least one trade arrow to the pile.
If the AI civs are finding you that early on a large map, you're a bit stiff. Start again. I've often played for many hundreds of years - sometimes thousands - before I've met another civ on a large map.
What's your order of research? If you haven't explored much before starting your first city, go HBR first off. Handy for defence purposes - particularly if you start with only warriors - and even more useful for exploring.

thanks finny. its just that none of the strategys as posted do anyting other than build warriors and settlers so i am attempting that.. The strategies go into depth explaining how citys are to be controlled and yet every time i do exactly as they say i fall soi far behind other AI civs that its not funny, i do much better using my old fashioend strategy of defend/expand ....
