Network to PBEM?
Yes I am new to SMAC. I am about to play my first multiplayer game. My question is can we play the first fifty turns of the game on our LAN then, when the turns get long, switch to PBEM? If so how?

It's easy, save the game and reload it as a hotseat/PBEM game with the same players. It will work perfectly.
If you have a LAN I would recommend playing simultaneous turns until there is combat. Even if turns are taking a while it makes the game exponetially faster.

That is great, we can only meet every so often, but if we can use the e-mail option some we can continue the game outside the LAN
