***SpartaNet NewsFlash***
After the disaster on the Unity it appears that the skill of our escape pod pilots saved many lives and that most of our contingent made it to Planet. The angle of approach towards Planet was much too steep for the escape pods and out of the twenty launched from the Unity nearly all were destroyed. Our safe landing was made possible by the brave sacrifice of Colonel Santiago. When the only two armed escape pods, manned by security personnel lead by Chief Security Officer Sheng-Ji Yang, started attacking the other escape pods Colonel Santiago quickly asked the people on her escape pod if they would volunteer to stay behind and delay Yang's forces in order to save us. In a matter of moments, there was a unanimous vote on the escape pod to save the other escape pods even if it meant sacrificing themselves. Santiago herself piloted that escape pod, and just as Yang's armed pods destroyed the final escape pod containing Counselor Godwinson's followers, Santiago rammed one of the two pods knocking it out of control and sending it hurtling back into the Unity. It exploded on impact. We listened to the heated exchange of words as Santiago valiantly maneuvered her pod to block any attempt by Yang to attack our pods. Avoiding the majority of Yang's laser blast Santiago managed to crash her pod into Yang's and force both of the escape pods into the atmosphere where they both burned. Our pilots confirmed that all of the U.N. delegation burned up in the atmosphere, apparently their pilots were very inexperienced and went in too fast and at too great of an angel. Also it appears that most of the followers of Deidre Skye, in their attempt to save the great number of hybrid plants on the Unity never made it off the ship. After our pilots had safely made it through the atmosphere, they picked by a distress transmission from one of the escape pods. Seeing the other escape pods burn in the atmosphere its pilot came in at too shallow of an angel and his escape pod filled with engineers and scientist bounced off of the atmosphere and started rocketing off into space. The pilot using the last of his escape pod's fuel managed to put the escape pod into high orbit around Chiron and then activated the distress beacon. Academician Prokhor Zakharov was on that escape pod and made a futile effort to try to use the pod's life support batteries to power the ship down to the surface but the batteries didn't provide enough power to get them out of orbit. Their escape pod is now a tomb circling Chiron in high orbit. No word as of yet on what happened to the financier Nwabubike Morgan and his followers.
It has taken some time but SpartaNet is finally operating. Our faction appears to have landed on a small continent and volunteers in the Spartan Defense Force (SDF) have started the long process of mapping the surrounding territory. They are aided by the fact that before leaving the Unity, part of the datalogs was transferred to our escape pods, including the Unity's preliminary orbital survey of Planet. It appears that we are not alone, early this year our transceivers picked up a very weak encrypted transmission that bounced off the ionosphere. We can only assume that this is Morgan and his followers but nobody knows for sure. The signal was very weak and we only picked it up once.

MY 2106 sent to Korn a few hours ago.
No complaints here, though I haven't seen all that much land, yet.
Starting with one colony pod and a scout is quite a change from IP starts, and different than I'm accustomed to in SP, where you usually get two colpods.. The game is going to start very slowly, indeed, I should think.

I really hope for a river or monolith, but thats the Drones. They will never discover anything without a little boost.

2107 sent to mongoose
there isn't any fertile ground near my starting location so it looks like growth is going to be slow for the time being...well maybe at least the game won't effectively be over by 2130 like most of the ACT00 games...one question what are the house rules for the game?

No fertile ground? How are you at two pop already, then?
Other than the no governor election house rule, I'm quite flexible. What did you have in mind? Let me rephrase that... what subjects do you wish a rule on?

I haven't played one of those tournament games. I got signed up now. I guess we are suppose to have 5 colony pods. I have no idea about that except that I'm wishing I were the UoP not the Drones. I guess I only have about 30 turns to figure it out.

i do not know about the no govenor rule...that takes away one of the Spartans biggest advantages over Morgan...Morgan can have equal or greater population than the Spartans it just takes more work...why can't i elect myself govenor? if you want to be govenor build the empath guild...and maybe there is some fertile ground around me...who knows except for my intelligence agency

MY 2108 sent to Korn.
I discussed the governor setting at some length in the other thread. I asked repeatedly if you would accept my insistence on that.
You are the one who said there was no fertile ground near you. I merely note that absent at least one non-rocky nutrient special, the only way you could have two pop in 2107 (accumulating 20 excess nutrients in years 2102 through 2106, inclusive) is to have started with a colony pod more than I did.
That would be something to complain about.

Lovely. It did last time I checked. If you start in the Jungle one on one like this and don't win, you ought to be relegated to playing against the AI for eternity.

Yes, they are! I didn't finish my 2110 report to Sikander until after I had played 2112.
