I've had 6 waves of barbs thus far, only 2 coming with a King. Sadly, I had to bump them and their ugly chariot accomplices in the interests of saving my cities.
From what I've observed over time, the King seems only to accompany units with 2 moves available to them - horses, chariots, etc. I've never seen them with archers. Can't recall seeing them with legion.

Another good session tonight. We returned to a very old game which is in the 20th century, 1905. I finished off the Persians but Hydey deserves the laurels.
Interestingly after the save I continued with my turn and took the German capital. They had a civil war and split into Germans and Americans Never seen that in a multiplayer game.

With 3 humans still in the game at 1905 this should be an interesting finish.

I've only ever seen it once in a multiplayer game. It probably doesn't happen often because an AI civ isn't often the biggest civ.

It will be interesting to see if it happens in play - the game was SP when I did it of course.
When I get it, I'm thinking of renaming the German capital Dieticity

It should happen. The pre-requisites are in place. When I saw it happen in MP, one of the other AI civs actually caused it to happen.

Fair enough. But it will mean Hydey has to start all over again against the Americans. Still, that will come with its own inbuilt incentive.

This is an interesting game in the sense that its a game where I was still following my old single player tactics, that is, sit back till the last century of the game building up your civ and then smash all your opponents in a viscious burst of conflict

Well let's see, Hydey has spent pretty much the whole game conquering the Persians. Which I guess means he's pretty much at a loose end now
You were trying to conquer the Indians, who have been a thorn in your side for centuries, but you were getting pretty frustrated because they are the most militarised civ. Now I see you are turning your attention to the Germans - but you're a bit late there, I just landed over 50 units on their Western border and am occupying half their main island whilst their cities fall into my hands like ripe plums

It's a pain in the arse fighting anyone under Democracy. The Indians have stopped irritating me. No doubt they'll come back again, but I can handle anything they throw at me. The Germans irritated me briefly, so I was going to knock off that city they took from Hydey. I was even going to give it back to him. I went to Fundy for a couple of turns, but switched back again. Decided I've got enough cities.
How's work today? I'm putting off writing a "Water Rats" scene breakdown.

Want me to write the Water Rats episode for you? I have a simple scenario. The whole cast goes out on a boat and never returns.
Then I think we should turn our attention to a light hearted situation comedy where the owner of a TV network falls out with his organ donor helicopter pilot and the pilot demands his kidney back. I'm sure it would be a hit.
Even better, the organ donor pilot demands his kidney back because his remaining one has failed. Barrel of laughs there, also good prospects for some court room drama. I think we should cast Rebecca Gibney as one of the silks, I think she would look very horny in a gown and wig. The other could be that skinny redhead from Frontline that you talk about more than Mrs Finbar.
Oh! Work is back to normal btw

He might well be getting it back anyway. I gather there are a lot of rejection problems.

Mrs finbar understands. She has to put up with me perving on Charley out of the Foxtel series "Ground Force", the original British version of the format that has been made here as "Ground Force" (by 7) and "Backyard Blitz" (by 9). Charley specialises in t-shirts sans support.

I gather we're having more problems with the Government unable to differentiate between trading meat and potatoes and things cultural. When will they ever learn?

Well we've been saying for some time down here that the Federal Government has the smell of death about it. That should brighten your day - you heard it here first.
The good news for us public servants is that a government facing an election it probably can't win tends to generate less work

As expected, the horse force took the German capital and the german empire was plunged into civil war. The German side of the former empire was taken last night. The American side should fall in the next session.

These are funny sorts of games. We start them as back-up/emergency games for when various locals aren't around to continue other games. We usually start with a couple of AI civs in case people turn up looking to fill in a couple of amiable hours. For some reason, in this game, it started out with Horse, Hydey and me and stayed that way. Thus the AI civs rolled along without human interference. Well, until we started interfering with them. If you get my drift.

We include ai civs so people can join in later sessions or drop out or whatever, the main thing is we can keep the game going with a core group.
Ai civs can be a pain in the arse, particularly early in the game if close by and hostile, but on the other hand they can also be good if you have lustful military urges (like finbar for example). They introduce a wild card factor into the game. For example, they research techs which sometimes upset the balance of play etc. Generally speaking I like having them around.

The Yank (rough) equivalent in baseball would be a "curve" ball and a "fast" ball.
I assume Fin's question was referencing how Horse may have dispatched his opponent, cricket style.
*clever, smug smiley*
BTW, are there four "strikes" (not sure what you call it) in cricket? That seems rather generous.
