Huge map/SMACX/Transcend players wanted...
...for a new tournament game. Two slots are available; the other players so far are Horus and Hobbes_One. If anyone is interested, post here...

Well I'm in as presupposed
Anyone who got some principal rules to vote or just disagree about?
What about Blind research? Is it ok in a tournament game (can't find the rules at the moment). Anyway, I usually favours blind research (mostly because of _my_ sense of realism), but some migth find it a bit slow.
I vote aye for blind, if it is an option.
Favoured factions:
Cyborgs, Belivers, PK, Drones or Gaians (the last one if there are much fungus growing in my garden, of course. Powerplayer? No, not I.)
Btw, I will try to get my icq going again, so that we can communicate more easily.

Sounds good to me - it is ultimately Tau Ceti's decision though, I think we should let him decide....

This game is already slightly off the beaten path for tournament games in that a huge map is used, so if you want different settings as well, I can provide it. I think the decision should be unanimous, though.

Blind research....edgy, but I would be willing to accept that, if as a challenge. The factions sound good to me....not sure about the Believers, though - unless someone actually *wants* them, which I can't imagine....
BTW Horus, give me a bell on 83785966 when you get ICQ up and running - it will make life a lot easier.

My preferred factions are Uni, Cult, Angels, Consciousness. Prefer blind off but will play with it on, though I don't want uni then! I'll take cult instead.

I prefer directed research, but will play blind of all other players want to. My preferred factions are Morgan, University, Cyborgs and Peacekeepers.

Ok as blind research isn't a favourite for many of us, I suggest that we drop that idea.
Well, Mark, playing the Believers do give me nigthmares from time to time. But they got their ups them too. But then again, maybe not on a huge map. Btw. (concerning icq) I must buy a new modem for my home comp. The lightning took the other one, please turn of random events someone
I don't want to forestall your choices of factions, but are these preferences rigth:
Horus Cyborgs
Hobbes Uni
Paul Morgan
Mark ? (maybe you want one of the factions named above? If so: Shout!)
I am eager to get going, but I guess we will be a bit stalled by Christmas and such - but it will pass soon.
Any other rules, or things to keep in mind?

Yes, there it was. Another question, which has to do with replacement players and holidays. I don't know if I speak only for myself, but I _migth_ have trouble with playing during some of the x-mas days. I could install Smacx on my father in laws comp. but that action migth be awarded with a Darwin award, so to speak.
Anyway, I got a replacement player of my own if it's ok, but I will try the most to play the game (even on my father in law's computer) in first person (after all, it is my self choosen pleasure).

Drones or PKs is fine for me, thanks - sorry about the delay....
Regarding x-mas, everyone is coming over here, so playing the turns shouldn't be a problem - in fact, I should be able to get on most nights....

Horus, a replacement player won't be necessary if this is just during the Christmas period. We'll just get some less turns done during that period and pick up the pace in the new year.

Paul, good to hear that - about replacement players. Anyway, I have a guy who can play for me if I happens to be away for a shorter time - I hate to be the one who stall things up.
As I ain't known at these boards I just want to tell you all that I - at least in the past - have proven myself a relaiable player. I played a rather annoying netgame called Utopia for a year (it felt like ages). I was a dedicated 'clanman', or more accurate: a cog in an alliance; getting up in the middle of the nigth to send out my troops and cast protective spells etcetera (realtime game). Actually I behaved as an addict.
So these are the factions and corresponding players(?):
Horus: Cyborgs
Hobbes: Uni
Paul: Morgan
Mark: Drones
(Interesting bunch of powermongers, I say - especially on a huge map.)
I got a private e-mail (I'll solve the modem issue asap) but this one works just fine, in opposite to the private one:

It is going to be an interesting game, but one question for Tau - how many pods is each faction going to start with? Is it going to be the normal two, or a couple more to speed things up?
Regarding Christmas, as I said, if everyone is going to be away for a while, then we should just put the game on temporary standby, I think - it would be better for all, IMHO.

If you all want extra units, I will provide them.
You do have a point in that there is not much point in starting a game only to have it postponed for a few weeks. So how available do people reckon they will be?

LOL. I keep clicking on this thread whenever I see a new post, hoping that TC is starting another tourney game and wants more players.
::sigh::
I was just to slow in respomding to this one.
Ah well, that's life. You snooze, you lose.

I wouldn't mind an extra colony pod or two, to get the game moving a bit quicker - what does everyone else think?
With regard to xmas, I will be available pretty much throughout - but if no-one else is available then it might be a better idea to wait....

Googlie: I am going to start several new games over the next few days. Are you interested in anything, or specifically a huge map game?

I am available to play every day during the christmas period. Horus, I don't know exactly how long you will be unable to play, but if it would be like a two-week period maybe we should start after christmas. If it is only two or three days we could start now and wait a couple of days for your turn over the christmas period. Considering the average playing speed in some other games that could still be considered an average game-speed.

Yeah, that sounds like a viable plan to me - there isn't much point starting the game yet if it is only going to stop again in a week or so.

Hi all, sorry for the delay, was away for two days, working (I will fix my home modem today). On top of that, on Saturday I fell victim for a stagparty my friends had arranged for me - not a chance that I could get to my departement and do some "work".
I'll be away all Christmas, but I could borrow a comp or two, in order to play. But I guess the task migth be all to risky, don't underestimate Christams as the supreme bane of action and punctuality - it migth be true for all.
So either we wait 'til after new year with starting the game, or we decide to start the game asap and play some turns on a single day (in order to get a jump start). But given that no one has _anything_ to do the days before Christmas, then I guess it is a splendid idea to suggest intensive gaming one of the coming days.

Tau Ceti has already started this game (AXT033) and I sent you the first turn this morning (about 4 hours ago).
