Umm.. I have a problem. My Alpha Centauri crashed on one of the games I was playing today... and now when I try to load a save game file, the box with the saved games is empty. Completely empty, no save files, no root directories showing, nothing.. its just a big blank box. I don't own Alpha Centauri anymore.. so I can't reload it on my system.. (I gave AC to a friend when I got AX... as I didn't need both CDs... Uh, oops).
Any ideas as to what is wrong? It appeared to bust on me when I was trying to save a game...

Ok... I figured out why I can't save the game at the end.. I started a normal game, saved it and then tried to play my turn.. (axt13).. got the turn through a second time.. when I tried to save it got that strange menu that messed me up the first time.. I just tried to save it where they put me, thinking I could hunt down the save file later, whever on my system it ended up and I found its trying to save the game to the CD drive instead of to the hard drive.. no clue why this happened suddenly.
There is no way to back track out of the root directory... and no manual imput area... I'm at a total loss as to how to proceed... I'm going to try my axt15 turn but I expect to see the same messed up stuff... I'm at a loss, I'm not computer ignorant, but this is strange... never seen AX do this...

What a bummer.
I have never seen this, and have no idea why it should be doing it but even without the AC disk, you can reinstall the SMAX v2 patch and the SMAC v4 exe file.
I believe that this will replace both executables with nice new versions?
If you don't have these somewhere, they're both at the Firaxis site still or I can mail them to you ...

Not a terribly good turn for the Gaians. No gassing, no bases taken, lots of stuff lost ... ah well

2177 to Tig. (who might catch up with Mis on the number of embargoed years. Total of 1000+ now :-()
Mis, how did you manage to get MMI 3 years ago. ? No artifacts, no unoccupied nodes, no research.
I guessed a unity pod, Tig told me something about a hidden?? artifact (how ? you are infiltrated in 3 different ways). Tsk, tsk, one never stops learning new things ! Please enlighten :-)

Turn has been sent back to that mastermind of brilliant tech, Misotu...
More drones dead... not enough considering the 94 population (hear that over there Paul, the drones are running away with it, join us or die... and thats not a threat!)

aaarrgghhh! I thought I had sent this turn, but I obviously didn't. I blame the holidays. Sorry
IIRC, valiant Gaian forces eradicated 2 Drone bases and captured a third. Former Hive citizens pleaded so piteously for their lives that we have decided to spare them and retain this base.
The artifact ... well, there's no mystery really. If you check back in earlier saves, you'll see it in the F7 military screen. The "cunning" bit was the fact that I hid it in fungus near the city building the node, risking the worms, rather than placing inside the base where it would, no doubt, have attracted the unwelcome attentions of Drone bombers.
Um. That's it. Sorry.
2178 is off to the Prime Function.

Anyways, after 4 years of unprecended horror the tech is in my hands now. Time to recycle that probe foil ...Hope its not too late already...not too many bases left.

No ... it's not too late. I am done for
Apologies for the delay in playing this, it's been hard to keep up with all my games over the holidays so I've been churning through the ones at early stages that are quick to play. This one always takes me quite a while - funny how it's much harder to play the games you're losing
Turn is finally off to Paul.
