Yep - there's no way I can change my address to be Amazonian_Mage@yahoo.com since the Yahoo address is banned.

[RedFred, grovelling, crawls into the thread on his knees with hands tightly clasped]
Well, I couldn't see delivering yet another 'lack of progress' report, so I've waited until I have something more positive to say.
I have learned a bit about zip utilities. And there are hundreds of them out there. In the end two different programs did the job. As of a couple of days ago I had consistant 'unzip' capability by using a product by ArkoSoft. As of today I have 30 days of 'zip' capability using another fairly arcane trial product. If I can't find a free download of a zip utility that actually zips and does't mess with my system in 30 days time I am prepared to purchase the $20 permanent version.
All this trial unzipping and playing and zipping may result in a tampering message. If so, my apologies; no cheat was intended. My other option was to wipe my PC clean and start reinstalling everything to see if that would cure it of my zip woes. That would be a huge and somewhat rash step which I am reluctant to take.
I have forwarded the file onto AC mere moments ago. Misotu, please go ahead and zip when it gets to be my turn again. I am confident that half of the process (unzipping) will work.

Just wanted to say that I received RedFred's zipped file yesterday evening, but it was very late so I didn't have time to play, zip, and send.
Today for various reasons I won't be near a PC with SMAX on it, but when I get back to the house sometime on Saturday 25th early morning, the game will be the first thing I'll do.
Hope that explains away this further slight delay...
RedFred - I've got a version of Winzip which does measure the number of days I've used it, but doesn't act on that, either to demand I buy it or anything. Would you be interested in having the exe file that comes with it? That is, if your experiments indicate that installing WinZip would *not* be a waste of time...

Amazing! Not two hours later, I find two good pieces of news.
1. I am back at home and have sent the zip on to Googlie.
2. I am now allowed to use enixine@enixine.dabsol.co.uk! (For multiplayer zip file exchange only, though.)
This means that I can download and open zips much faster, as well as having unlimited memory for them. Note that I still have to use Amazonian_Mage@yahoo.com for conversations, etc, but at least this will make posting zips much more convenient.
So, please post your zips to my standard big email address, enixine@enixine.dabsol.co.uk - Thanks!

Allie, thanks but no thanks on that WinZip offer. A couple of versions of WinZip were among the first zip utilities I tried. They seem to interact with my PC about as well as matter interacts with antimatter.
It would be an understatement to say that I had less problems this turn, however hotmail seemed to crash just after I sent the file on. If there is a problem let me know ASAP and I'll resend. I went with the new e-dress.

2103 sent on to RedFred ...
Yeah, I have the same problem since I use hotmail for gaming. I've had to set my profile so that the email addy I registered with isn't displayed, because I hardly ever check that inbox.

Off to Alinestra.
My zip utility zipped up the file but also left an unzipped copy. I am having trouble deleting the unzipped copy as I get an error message telling me that it is somehow protected from deleting.
Unless I hear that someone has somehow protected the file in 2104 I will assume that I am continuing to have minor zip problems.

Definitely didn't do anything at all unusual to the file Red Fred, so it sounds like you still have zip problems

RedFred, the file you zipped had a few problems, but probably not due to the zipping process. Check your email for further details...

LOL. Well, that's a relief. I didn't think we'd be capturing any native life in this game. The new Chair of the Hive is a woman of hidden talents
2106 to the Cultists, who are no doubt running stables of worms by now ...

WOW, Mis - you beat my posting post (...and on to Mis...) and my reload problems explanation.
Froze twice on loading at the diplomacy screen - couldn't exit it, mouse nor keyboard didn't work, reboot the only option. Third time worked like a charm - go figure.

Well, I know I've played this turn before, but couldn't see any file for Fred or any record that I'd sent it. The turns were identical - so if you see a reload message, apologies. Just my poor management.
2107 to RedFred, and I'm glad to hear his zip programs are finally behaving

The ball has been duly lobbed into Alinestra's court.
Now that I am no longer holding up this operation and turns seem to be happening about once a day I doubt I will continue to post for every single routine turn.
This is mostly a gratuitous post because I like the toques on the smileys during December.

Well, I keep posting even when there's not much to say because it's easier to keep track of where the turn is that way.
Cute smilies
