Thanks, mark. Turn sent to Hobbes_One. You'll get an extra save/load warning about me, folks, but I swear on my Grandma's kittens I wasn't up to nothin'.
Hey, I just realized that the save opens up without the usual info screen, you know, where it shows you your faction leader portrait and tells you what MY and difficulty level you're on? You know, the little cameo that happens when you're still on the main Alpha Centauri screen, before you enter your password? Howcome's that, huh, howcome?

The colonists assemble, eagerly awaiting their forthcoming adventure. A couple are twitching nervously, some seemingly unphased by the perils that lay ahead.....
"We are sending you to a nice arable patch of land, just south of the Borehole Cluster."
The announcement over the tannoy came as a shock, the people seemingly relieved that it will not be a fungal nightmare, as U.N. Enformcement Base had been just a year ago. They shuffled into position, eager to get into the Colony Pod.
"All clear!"

Um...
The Giant Molasses-Eaters recieved the invitation with mixed emotions. Undergoing severe sugar withdrawal from their inability to get a good batch of molasses for their pancakes, they didn't really feel in the mood to party. Plus, being oversized and all, they tended to have trouble at parties: they fumbled awkwardly with the paper cups, and had to stand all the time or risk breaking the host's couch. This wasn't so bad on Earth, where you could have open-air parties, but here on Planet, where everything had to happen inside some kind of dome, it was death on your back.
Nantuplet Helium Pond, the only one of her brood to survive the margarine famine of '02, made the decision. "We'll sit this one out, people. The University is too cramped; a couple years hence, when we get our colony in order, we'll invite everybody over to our house. Until then, we must keep working." The colony grumbled a bit, but went back to their oversized warrens.

Turn turned to Nigel.
The lack of enthusiasm regarding our proposed party was greeted with sadness by university researchers. It was even suggested that future tech trading may have to be limited due to out neighbours indifference. Aaaaah well, there's another base-warming party coming in a year or two, perhaps a more favourable response may occur then.

The Giant Molasses Eaters regret deeply any offense they may have caused by recalcitrance. They offer in apology a sample of their latest efforts at fungal molasses. It's not exactly like the real thing, but you get used to it.

Turn turned.
A jar of a strange black substance was received with great trepidation by University researchers following its discovery on the back doorstep. It is undergoing chemical analysis now. Trials to establish edibility have not been successful to date; the Lab rats starved themselves to death rather than eat it.

"We have something, sir"
"Well?"
"Some metal deposits, we think originally from the Unity"
"Good. Are they valuable?"
"There is a merchant in U.N. Headquarters who collects Unity valuables, sir. What do you reckon, 50 energy credits?"
"Sounds good to me, should be enough to pay for our new colony pod..."

The Scout Patrol commander felt extremely embarassed. He'd been on Planet since landing, and should have known better. At first, he'd been excited--it looked like they'd found a perfectly usable Solar Seeder from the Unity. That would come in handy, back at Snogworthy: these things could almost instantly set up a very lucerative patch of Solar Panels, and what with the money troubles the GME had been having, he'd be seen as a hero. But he wasn't quite sure if it was actually a Solar Seeder, or a Pulp Silo (the Unity planners had anticipated a need for paper products far in excess of what was actually called for, and useless Pods full of paper pulp were turning up all over Planet). So he directed a member of his unit to scrape off some of the debris that was covering the Pod's ID plate. He should've done it himself: the dumb sprout set the thing off. Now there sat a patch of Solar Panels, out in the middle of nowhere, no good to anybody. The commander felt like waiting a couple cycles to call this one in.

Turn turned. A quiet time. No pods, no techs, no colonys. Terraforming however, goes according to plan & the research labs are running hot.

Exciting times lay ahead, as the borders of our great empire mysteriously moved at the end of the year. Rumours are circulating about the origin of this mysterious occurence, but no conclusive proof has yet been found.....

Turn to Hobbes.
You guys will get a save/reload suspiciousness error about me. I promise I'm not doing this to try to get different effects from pods, or worm battles, or to take back stupid mistakes. I'm trying to take screenshots of the whole map, zoomed out to the max, at the end of every turn, so I can make a cool little .avi out of them at the end of this. I forgot to take the screenshot this time. I reloaded so I could take the shot.
And oh yeah: White Elephants informs me that a Rueben has corned beef and sauerkraut, not roast beef. Thanky, White-E.

Elimination is regarded as a last resort. I know that in the rules it says that anyone who doesn't post in 48 hours will be eliminated, but in practice it seldom happens. Just wait another day or two, and if he doesn't post, I'll get in touch with him.
