2104 to big_canuk
(with a reload message - had to leave the PC for five minutes and it was frozen when I returned - had to reload and repop a pod, with great results ( ... ... ) - mindworm first time, fossil fuels second time.

Apologies for the delay - was dragged away from gaming by a RL crisis and didn't get back at all yesterday

Hey, Mis:
You wanted unfettered room to expand to your sixty bases or so?
(A little bit of aggro over the agra with your pactmate/ally/teammate won't hurt, now, will it?)
I presume your HQ's aren't just six squares apart - didn't you just expand in the wrong direction (towards each other?)
G.

Nah, Googlie, we've got our wires slightly crossed here. Tau is the Gaians in Nato 1 - it's Big Canuck who's the Gaians in this game!
If it were Tau, I wouldn't worry about it, we'd just have to work round it. But since it's BigC ... well, I was hoping that we'd get round to joining battle a bit later in the game? I mean, isn't that the point of a huge map?

LOL, I knew I'd do that eventually in a parallel game (in the Alien 01 and 02 games I'm playing with big_canuk I got so frustrated one evening that my unit wouldn't move - it was his !)
And the "Huge" maps in PBEMs are nothing like the Huge maps I regularly play in SP. I'd hate to play a PBEM on a tiny map.
It's snowing here in Vancouver today. Very Christmassy. Would it snow on Chiron, I wonder?

You didn't express an opinion though Googlie
The starting position is really not sensible. I'm on a peninsula, my only way out is through the Gaians and my second base is 6 squares away from either their HQ or their second base.
I'm not a big fan of early rushes under most circumstances, but there's little point in a team game if one player looks set to be wiped out in the first 10 years?

2107 to Googlie.
I agree with Misotu that this start cannot work. She has pretty much described the entire situation; there is no way this can end without the destruction of either the University or the Gaians. This early in the game that seems rather pointless.
And Mis, my last exam was indeed yesterday. Holiday time! (lots of Christmassy smilies)

I agree.
I've send my completed turn (big_canuk's 2108 turn) to Basil to have him look at it, and suggested a restart.

OK ... I've received the turn from Big_Canuck but I'll just hold onto it unless I hear cries of protest
Might be worth mentioning to Basil that we were looking for a bit of a build-up here? No momentum factions and no AI factions, so the start positions need to be chosen quite carefully I think ...

Thanks Tau - things are fine. The crisis was (is) my neighbour's, not mine, but it's not good
BTW, hope life has improved down your way too - I think your exams finished yesterday?
Regarding the game - I've just met a Gaian scout and it looks to me like we have bases just 6 squares apart. Not, er, quite what I had expected given a huge map and just 4 factions in 2 teams.
???
I've sent 2107 to the Drones anyway, but I'm wondering whether this is really quite the sort of game set-up we'd envisaged?

OK, I've set up a second game for this and sent it to Big_Canuck. I looked at the game before sending it, and I think it's reasonably balanced.

2102 to Googlie.
I have not yet contacted Basil about the scenario bug thing (it has been hectic lately, going on vacation, doing a lot of bug testing and setting up five new games), so we may very well be on Librarian still. Being the Drones, I am unable to check it, but I have asked Googlie to do so. I will contact Basil when I hear back so we can get NU1 restarted as well as this one if it is still Librarian.
