For more on the rating system, refer to the Ladders topic by Solver in the AC-Multiplaying forum. And, here are some of the fundmental rules. All the rules are in one of my posts at Ladders, but I will include the rules here as well over time.
Initial ratings for the players: this depends on the highest SMAC/X AI level ever defeated by the player as follows: Citizen = 14, Specialist = 16, Talent - 17, Librarian = 18, Thinker = 19, Transcend = 21.
Delinquency rule:
If a player doesn't play his turn in 24 hours, he is delinquent, and gets a next-turn from the previous play, to send the turn to the next one. Each time a delinquency occurs, the player loses 0.1 (one tenth) rating points. If there's explanation present either on the forum or in my mailbox, no penalty is applied. Explanation include things like lost Internet connection, Windows problems, etc.
As in CtP, I have no time to monitor all of the rated games, so please, when a player is delinquent either post the fact at the respective ratings thread, or email that to me.
Know this sounds terrible, but as experience shows, it ain't that hard .
Elimination Rule:
Idea by Quinns.
If a player is:
a) Eliminated
b) Changes status in the game from rated to unrated
c) Gets end-turned three times in a row with no explanation,
then each remaining player defeats him 3 times.
Transcend Rule:
If a player completes the Ascent to Transcendence sequence, he defeats each remaining player three times.
This thread is also meant for all of you to post anything about the system. OK, enjoy, as for now, I have nothing else to give you.

OK, Keygen, let this be, but if I get no info on Reggy till Friday, on Friday he will be put in with a Talent rating. At the moment I add Stuntman, and finally, the mighty Tau Ceti.

You can add me at 21.0. I would be interested in participating in a rated game. Will do any faction except Believers and Morganites.

What are the rules for being put in at 21? Do I have to submit a save or something?

 Googlie...
Anyway, me, mighty? Hahahahaha! Save that title for people who deserve it, Solver. Misotu would be a fine candidate. Also Velociryx and Zsozso, if they ever decided to play PBEM again. Probably some ACOL guys too, but I do not know them so well...

Tau Ceti,
you're an admirable person because of the effor you put in SMAC PBEM by creating your tournament.
Mark13:
You have to play at Transcend level and win - proof would be a zipped save at my email address.
DilthiumDad:
I'll update the ratings tomorrow.

Is there a deadline, or do I just get put in whenever I submit one?

Well look at this! There is interest in rated games in SMAC. That's great.
Solver, how did you all decide to rate the games? Maybe I should read the continuation of your "Ladders" thread.
Good luck to all!

Accually Mark13 that would just give you the highest initial score (21.000).
All you have to do is to post the highest level ever beaten the AI and take the apropriate initial rank.

Mark, I have used to trust the others, normally, when they say they have beaten it. Keygen has given me a save to prove his Deity victory in CtP, but actually I am now putting you in, as a Transcend player. But I yet want the save.

Keygen, both of your games are taking heck out of me. Till you get responses from all the players active there, the games can't be rated. Hurry on, those non-replying smurfers .

I'd just like to say that I never completely read the endless "ladders" thread, so I have no CLUE as to what is going on.

But just in case my Cult OCC .sav is good for something I am sending it on.

RedFred, read my email, you're added.
Keygen, when you enter the new game entries, not only the players are needed, their initial rating as well.
Read my email for more, as well.

As I promised, I rate these games, and Keygen, you have the rating of 20, as I told you.
Now I go with OFFICIAL SMAC PBEM RULES ADDITIONS:
1. Initial Rating Rule
This is after what happened with Nanuk here. When a player is asked for his initial rating, a countdown laucnhes. Deadline is one week. If there's no response by that time, player will receive a rating of 18, and from now on his rating will change only due to wins-losses, he won't be able to change the 18 initial rating.
This is to prevent cases like Nanuk's and several similar ones in CtP, when I had to wait for even up to 20 days for player's initial rating.
2. Posting AC Score
First time that the SMAC game is rated, now with Keygen's Classic PBEM Game, everyone posts his scores to the forums. From now on, this will not happen again.
When the M.Y. 2**0 comes (2160, e.g.), CMN of the game will open turn of each player in a row, see what his AC score is, and either post that data in the current SMAC Ratings thread (this one at the moment) OR send this to my email address. This will make work of CMN a bit harder, I think, but that's how they will have to live from now on .
3. Rating a game
Previously, also to be seen in the "Ladders" topic:
To rate a game, at lest 3 players must agree for the specific game to be rated. Players might continue to play unrated in any game, then they will not be counted in during calculations.
When a new game is rated, the game moderator (usually the game starter, CMN) should post it at the current ratings thread or email it to me.
Addition:
Data to be specified when a new game is rated:
Player's Apolyton aliases (NOT SMAC aliases), in sequence which they play their respective turns.
If a player has a rating. If not, either CMN can ask him for the initial rating, otherwise I will do that, as usually.
Unrated players are specified in parenthesses.
CMN of the specific PBEM is also to be specified.
Game's official name.
Turn on which the game should start to be rated.
Example:
Rated Game Example (M.Y. 2157):
Players:
AH - already rated
BC - initial rating - Librarian
OL - no rating data
IP - already rated
(SM)
Game CMN: CMN
For now, these are all the additions.
Rating supdated with Nanuk and Keygen.

I think it unfair, and an unnessecary burden to ask a CMN to assemble the scores every 10 turns. It would be easy enough to post to the thread every 10 turns for the first 50 or 100 years. Then a volunteer could assemble the scores and mail them to Solver, ccing the game players.
This task could then fall to the player who gets the empath guild, or who is planetary governor. They would have access to all the scores in the "F" menu item.
Anything we can do to lighten the load of CMNs who already give greatly of their time for us should be considered.

I played my 2140 turn in the Keygen's Classic Game on Jan 31, and was not aware of having to post my score.
I'm still unsure whether we do this or a CMN does to confirm it is correct. I also have a save of a transcend victory if it is needed to varify my starting postion.

Whoops! I didn't realise getting rated would involve more work for people and that three players had to agree to a game being rated for it to happen. Please withdraw my name from the rating for now. If I start a game in the future that everyone agrees should be rated I'll do it then. Solver, please ignore the e-mail I just sent you.

The reason why I want CMN to do this is simple:
1. Otherwise, everyone should need to look at the score, and I would see many posts by the individuals, instead of 1 post by CMN.
2. To prevent cheating. If there's a player who hasn't been infiltrated (common after first ten turns), noone actually prevents him from posting a score that is actually higher than the real one he has.
If CMN posts wrong scores, others would say that. I know that work of CMN is very hard - all in all, if you want, then post yourself, I don't quite mind it.

The matter here is that when rated games will become more it won't be good all those players to post each his score here. It will be a chaotic situation!
It's better if we email or post to each game thread the scores and then someone to email Solver or post here with the scores with one post per game.
As for Keygen's Classic the participants will email me their scores and I will post them here.
Regarding people who have expressed their interest on get rated but haven't declare their initial score just don't rate them . This includes Nanuk. GET HIM OUT OF THE RATINGS! At list until he informs me with his initial score.

Keygen, it might take Nanuk even more weeks to respond now. Give me his score, and that's at it. Sorry to remind you, but it's ME who makes the final decisions in inicdents like that. Low score he will receive - it's a punsihement for the endless days he left me without response. I need his AC score at this moment, and he will be rated at 18.

I don't have his score and I won't have it for 3 more weeks as he is on vacation!
And I don't see the reason why we sould punish him while he haven't yet started getting rated!
And I can't understand why we should force him to get rated. If he doesn't bother to reply then he doesn't bother to get rated too.
And I should tell you that he didn't care whether he got rated or not.
DO NOT RATE HIM!!!
