My turn to generate some delay On the positive side, my next turn should be coming from a machine made of titanium ... more timing details in the next couple of days
In the meantime... it is obvious that the two of you are planning a cooperative full scale assault on the Pirates fairly soon: massive military and intelligence cooperative buildup and movement, absolute focus on energy, strategic transfer of military units and technologies, telltale negotiation positions, the list goes on...
If, for any reason, you wish to change your mind and solemnly pledge that you will not attack the Pirates unprovoked for the next 15 years and will attack the other player if they did, do so now. Otherwise, consider us at war

2165 to Oniron....
********************************
It has begun. The moment the collective Hive has been dreading for the last 25 years has finally arrived - and it took the form of a wave of horrific native life forms. Horrified, our former crews put up a valiant effort against the invaders, but to no avail - the merciless Pirate juggernaut continues its inevitable march.

Humble apologies to you both. As you know, I've been moving and things have been hectic. I've been keeping up with my games, just about, but I haven't had time to check through all my game threads (especially now I have dial-up instead of a cable connection). The turn didn't reach me, and I didn't see Oniron's post.
Oniron chased me up by email today - I'll play the thing as soon as it arrives. Sorry

So much for good intentions ... played no games at all yesterday in the end. But 2166 is *finally* on its way to Mark. Sorry about the delays.
(observers notice a small twitch in Mis' right eye)
Think that's all I have to say right now.

Shortly after my election at the planetary council, very disturbing intelligence reports flowed in. Instead of suggesting that our three nations would grow in peace and prosperity, it uncovered an Angel-Hive plot to destroy the Nautilus nation by using superior weaponry. It was then that I decided to link the Pirates’ collection of Alien artifacts to the Nautilus network in order to rectify the situation
Fusion is but one of the by-products of this process
Captain Oniron

Wow, I must say I am astonished.
Haven't heard back from Misotu yet, but I think the general consensus is that we are ready to throw in the towel. Those 1-<3>-1*2s sure are tough nuts to crack
First of all, I offer massive congratulations to Oniron on what has been an absolutely masterful performance in this game. From what I have heard, you annihilated the PKs pretty early on, and moved from strength to strength. This is my account of the events that unfolded in this game:
When I took over, in a pretty poor position, the Hive were firmly pacted with the Angels, with three primary objectives in mind:
1) Secure our bases. We knew that if you attacked in the 5-10 turns or so after my arrival, it would have been game over. Once I had something of an army up, and I was fairly certain that your mind worms wouldn't be able to penetrate my defenses, set about building.
2) Expand. The priority was to ICS to the north, and make sure I had reasonable production in all bases to prepare for the inevitable war.
3) Get to D:AP. After a little detour to IndAuto, for wealth and crawlers, that is. We thought that if we could get to D:AP in reasonably short order, and throw something resembling an airforce up, we could overrun you. After researching, trading and generally fluking our way to D:AP, we set about the airforce.
And then....well, you know the rest.
I would also like to add that this is one of the most enjoyable PBEMs I have ever had the pleasure to be involved in, and to thank everyone who participated (including Adam Smith, and of course Emjaycue).

Hi, sorry for the delay in posting. I haven't been able to access this site for a couple of days now - thanks to Mark13 for the urls that enabled me to get back here!
*Very* well-played Oniron, congratulations! And like Mark, I thoroughly enjoyed the game. Pity you got to Fusion so early in a way. We'd counted on AMA, but not that - without the level 2 reactors it would have been quite an exciting finish :big grin: We'd planned on using nerve gas, so it would have been quite tough keeping up production with no commerce income, and most of your bases would have been hard to reach too.
Anyway, a well-deserved victory. I emailed Tau with the result, by the way. Are you playing more tourny games Oniron? If so, hope to meet up with you again ...

Thank you so very much for a wonderful game and your generous congratulations. I obtained fusion power in '64 after probing superconductor from Mark13 in the first year of the war: I had been sitting on cyberethics (from the Cyborg Consciousness) for a while and AMA came through alien artifacts.
I think what was more key was the psychological advantage of leading all the categories (except energy credits in '66) and the power chart for such a long time
I would indeed be tempted by a rematch, although I would rather play another random map as I enjoy exploration a lot: I find that it favours the bold rather then the experienced
Why don't we stick with our factions and find a new player for the Peacekeeping Forces?

I am surprised you managed to probe Superconductor - I thought I had covered all my angles probe-wise....evidently not....
I can see what you mean about the psychological advantage, but I think Fusion Power was the key moment....had you not had that, we would have fancied our chances with our 4x-1-10s (and lots of them)....
The suggestion for a rematch is indeed a good one, although it is safe to say that the Hive aren't my favourite faction right now - I would prefer one of the builder factions, to be honest. Still, let me know what you decide.....if we do go for a random map game, it might be a good idea to start with a couple of extra pods, just to get things moving a bit quicker.
Thanks,
Mark

Yeah, I'd take a rematch but like Mark, I'd prefer a change of faction. The Angels are OK, in fact, but don't suit my style of play that well. I'd take the PKs if they're up for grabs. Otherwise Gaia would be good. What do you fancy Mark?
