Beeline to Trancendace
Hi!
I'm currently playing the Hive and I was wondering which way is shorter to Trancedance!
I don't own the manual, so I don't have the tech tree! Can anyone help me with this? What tech do I need to research, and in which order?

You can download Helium Pond's mini tech tree (both smac and smax versions) at:

I thought that you basically needed everything to get to Transcendence, i.e if you get to transcendence by research (not by stealing), then you must have ALL the other techs, right?

But thanks for the reference to the tech tree, very helpful.

Also: in the game, on the datalinks, there is a sort of mini-tech tree that is somewhat helpful.

No, you don't need all the techs to transcend (altho sometimes you will be offered only a dead-end tech when you really need something else)

Techs that don't contribute to the Transcend beeline are:

Frictionless Surfaces
Quantum Power
Quantum Machinery
Singularity Mechanics
Graviton Theory
Applied Gravitronics
Controlled Singularity
String Resonance
Sentient Resonance
Secrets of the Manifolds

(some, of course, you might want for other reasons)

I agree with Googlie, but iirc, Sentient Resonance and Secrets of Manifolds are required. SoM is prerequisite for Threshold, I think.

You're right b_c. YDRC.

In smac, the prereqs for threshold are Secrets of Creation and Temporal Mechanics. In smax they changed to Secrets of the Manifolds and Temporal Mechanics.

So in a smax game, Sentient Resonance and Secrets of the Manifolds are on the Transcend beeline.
