It seems that we have a bunch of people who have slightly differenmt preferences but all of whom are willing to play whatever is decided. If we have a moderator to assign or hold passwords I guess we can get a map generated and find out who the heck we are. I need to get in character.
Lal - " I welcome you in peace"
Miriam- " Die unbeliever"
Cha- " walk with Planet"
Dee- "Hug a tree with me"
etc etc
Just tell me who I am !!
Oh and I was serious about the east-west turn order-- It can cut turnaround time a lot in most instances.

Yeah, it all seems fine. Let's play.
One note: like I said above, I've never played against human beings, only the AI. I assume the diplomacy in this game occures via email (or telephone, or whatever) behind the scenes? Or what?
I'll be placing a call to Riga any minute now.

I can not, and will never do an IP game.
Why I want a smaller map? Cause it would make it possible for us to meet earlier. Don't want to see us making first contact in 100 years of playing. Not Large map, Medium, is my preferrance.
And, game moderator is Keygen. I'll ask him for 3 extra scouts then, I think, this makes it a bit faster.
Don't care about Look First, but I'd like pods on, makes exploring vital, and game more interesting.

I do not mind extra units at all-- It just takes away from some factions advantages a little- I played the Cult a lot lately and the advantage of the early worm would be negated by the existence of ready explorers for other factions. Are these extra units "free" as in requiring no support?
map size -- I am in favor of " large"-- we want enough space to play a bit without a faction in our laps BUT I fear MP with huge maps as I think of the file sizes when we all have bunches of crawlers. I also fear having Miriam on such a world LOL-- But I will play huge, no problem.
Are we set on random factions? would that also randomize turn order since it is probably more efficient (faster turn-around) to go east to west Latvia-England-Newfoundland-Toronto-Latvia etc so that even if everyone plays at the end of their "day" the following player still has lots of time to play that same "day". It doesn't matter who is first. Any thoughts on this?
Is there anything left to decide before this can get moving? If there is any stuff not agreed yet we can make a quick decision and get going.

Dr. there is a thread that you need to read which I'm sure that Solver will post which outlines the rules.
I agree with cbn in regard to turn around time. In my case even though I live in England I work nights so alot of my turns will either be in the afternoon or early morning.

Diplomacy occurs through the special multiplayer screen, but you aren't allowed to make any contact before you actually meet on the map or get their comm frequency. Hm, a call to Riga wouldn't help too much, for I can't give you techs over the phone line.
We will start when Keygen, our moderator, looks at this thread, and says his big word.

I think we are in agreement as your situation makes my point. Since I would play after you (unless there is a player from (greenland or Iceland) your turn played in the daytime would be waiting for me when I get home (I work 9-5) and could be sent on in the late afternoon to the next player who again gets it with ample time to play the same day.
I don't mean to harp on this or seem fanatical about fast turns. I expect that real life (vacations, work etc) will intrude from time to time. I am just trying to cut down on systemic delay.

As for my time (EST -5) I'm not around in the evenings, so I would be doing my turns during the weekdays... so anytime between 7:30am and 4pm.

Ah-- if situs and twister both play during the day the order could be situs- twister-cbn. I play early morning around about 0600 Apolyton time or after work (1700 Apolyton time until as late as 2300)-- weekends vary but I check for turns about 3 times a day if I am home. If twister is in Toronto there is not large time difference between us so it makes sense to give the turn to a "day" player before it goes to me as an "evening" player. If I pass to twister we would likely have about 12-18 hours delay there each time.
Perhaps we could get a sense of when everyone (usually)plays we can come up with the best turn order. I think that east-west is generally good but night shift poeple or night owls can shift this around.
Is a mod creating this game now?

How could I forget you?? You were the main organizer of this game LOL. Hopefully the mod agrees with my suggestion on turn order -- otherwise I have been flapping my gums for nothing LOL.
Who will I be ?
Spartans "Government should not interfere in our lives"
Roze " wanna buy a tech?"
Zak "I do not care how many bunnies are blinded! Continue the research !
Drones " Hi Ho Hi Ho its off to work we go"

RE: Turn posting times,etc.
I can commit to posting a turn a day, but it will be hard to say what time of day I'll be able to get to it. Sorry if that throws a wrench in the works.
Have to say I'm stoked about playing against people (I trust none of you are AI). It gets so predictable against the game brain.
And did we ever agree on all the rules, settings, etc?

Your preferences aren't clear enough so take a look on the following:
Play order
Solver (ugita@latnet.lv): GMT: +02:00
SITS (tony@tlafave.demon.co.uk): GMT: 00:00
CBN (sharris41@hotmail.com): GMT: -04:00
Twister (jphinney@mroc.com): GMT: -05:00
DrFaustus (michaeltaft@earthlink.net): GMT: -08:00
Settings
1. Size of Planet (Random): Tiny, Small, Standard, Large or Huge.
2. Ocean coverage: 30-50%, 50-70% or 70-90%.
3. Erosive Forces: Strong, Average or Weak.
4. Native Life Forms: Rare, Average or Abundant
5. Cloud Cover: Sparse, Average or Dense
6. Difficulty Level: Citizen, Specialist, Talent,Librarian, Thinker or Transcend.
Rules
01. Higher Goal
02. Total War
03. Peace in Our Time
04. Mine, All Mine
05. One for All
06. Do or Die
07. Look First
08. Tech Stagnation
09. Spoils of War
10. Blind Research
11. Intense Rivalry
12. No Unity Survey
13. Bell Curve
14. Time Warp
15. Iron Man
16. Randomize faction leader personalities
17. Randomize faction leader social agendas
Factions
1. Faction
2. Leader Name
From the settings chooce one of the selection, from the Rules chooce either ON or OFF and chooce a Faction and a Leader Name.
I wouldn't recommend random factions as in a couple of tests I did Sister Miriam was always one of the random factions .
If you don't know any of the above settings or rules just ask or if you feel they are too many to be asked just ask in those you are more interested about and I will feel the blanks.
As soon as I get your answers we will start.

One comment. Perhaps for the sake of efficiency next time it would be easier if the person setting up a game starts out stating the settings under which the game would be played. These would be changed only if it was clear that there was some other clear preference. I appreciate the opportunity for input but am more interested in just getting playing.
I also appreciate the work that people expend in setting up these games but am just trying to avoid these lengthy set-up discussions. Once Keygen gets all our preferences he will likely be in a situation on many of them where 2 players want 1 setting, 2 want another and the fifth player does not care. There are too many options to expect unanimity so my vote is that Keygen just start this (flipping a coin on any tied options LOL).
Oh-- I will play a huge map if that is what the others want and my factions were also listed in order of preference.

I'd play any difficulty, Transcend won't harm me.
I'd like all types of victory allowed, no random events, exploring required, directed research, pod scattering on, do or die on. For other rules, I'll play with what you decide. Oceans should be average, in my opinion.
Keygen, you already know my leader name - what I'm using for last 8 months . Factions, in their order of how I like em:
1. Zakharov the Wise and Drone-Plagued
2. Aki-Zeta the Cybernetic, with Iron Body (Iron Lady)
3. Morgan the Rich (son of Bill Gates)
4. Svensgaard the Swimmer, coming from Captain Nemo, the merciless guy with long hair.
Never actually tried 3 or 4 in multiplayer, so might want to do this. I think extra units should be: 3 scouts for land based factions (+ worm for Cha and probe for Roze, of course, if we have them), 1 extra gun foil for Svensgaard, if we get him, too. 3 would be surely too much.
And Keygen, if I happened to be Miriam, you'd be nice to give me someone else, right . Otherwise, you get banned from Apolyton!
 .
And, of course, rated. I have ratings for everyone here. Faustus is thus far Librarian, as you told me. With all great respect, I see that I start to make out the newbie stuff here, making them play, not only bother in higher echtelions of Apolyton. Go, go!
 .
What a terrible post by me . Had to sleep a bit more...
