I think that recording basic data every 10 years ie who is leading in tech etc. as well as current score might be helpful. I wouldn't want too much detail though!

My AC score is 10: Pop. 4 (4 bases), Tech. 6. (Tech in 4, next tech in 2.)
I don't think units are that important.
