more to the world than cricket !!! oh you must mean Football... !!!
And i think you must be wrong finny, more austrlaians and other cricketing nations would be impacted by his career more than a million other people...
I mean try getting any australain to list all our PMs ...
Unlike Americans we dont respect our political leaders becasue they are jsut politicians despite being our nation leaders. Our heroes and those who affect most of us are sportwmen and women.. Although recently a few young people starting to look upto the Capitalists in our midst..
you are right of course, behind the scenes and unbeknownst to most of us are many good people , but they havent made obviosu impacts on us.
The Don to me and probably many other Aussies was a hero, a role model and beaut all round bloke !!!!

I wasn't talking about politicians, Raz. Politicians have nothing to do with it. I was talking about everyday people who never get a mention. Frankly, I find the deifying of Bradman an indictment of this country. Peter Roebuck - the cricket writer - got it right when he said Bradman didn't even rank in the top 3 people who had made real contributions to world cricket over time. Yes, he was the world's best batsman. Fine. But what else? There is, in fact, plenty of evidence to suggest he was an incredibly selfish person who also played the religious card in team selections. Who would rank higher than him in terms of contribution to world cricket over time? For starters, Frank Worrell took the West Indies - a bunch of separate little countries - and welded them into a single unit. He was mentor and father figure and wet nurse and diplomat. And a champion cricketer to boot.

finbar is right - Arthur Mailey is quoted as saying Bradman was the most unpopular player he ever played with. Mailey is not alone.

I've been busy but this is the current download of the 'real' scenario:
www.ozemail.com.au/~iadkins/real.zip
There may be some final changes.....
Can I get definite confirms from everyone:
carnide YES?
agharta YES - Americans
Markus YES
Hydey YES
deity YES
Nappy YES?
WE need just ONE more. And select your civ!

In the absence of any strong objections here is a civ listing:
I'll kill the English civ if we get no 7th player.
RULES, unless any major objections:
As per the manual except-
* 2200AD finish
* Oracle expires with Democracy
* Mike expires with Electricity
* Diplo style game with stories but wars as per the manual
* no city bribe
IN any dispute unless otherwise agreed in advance, the manual rules prevail. We all use standard features like inc rush buying so I guess that sort of thing is OK.
I'd really like turn-based but I guess most of you will prefer SIMUL.
Wars must be turn-based though. I think it's OK to launch a surprise attack in a SIMUL turn; then the world is notified that WAR is on and turn order is respected as per the honour system until war is declared over by BOTH combatants. The state of the WAR must be reported to the world.
I'm currently in a SIMUL diplo game and a turn-based diplo game and SIMUL is not really that much quicker; PLUS I enjoy the precision of turn-based. You have time to plan and negotiate but I will go with the flow on this one.

As an Australain but not a devout cricket follower I must say Who the Flick is arthur mailey??
And as for contributuions to cricket, I know many little boys who would have read of the Dons technique of hitting the golf ball against the raintank stand and tried to emulate it.
I agree there may well have been peopel behind the scenes who had more impact on cricket, like for instance Packer when he started WSC, and the behind the scenes influences of "Strop" John Cornell , in recruiting the players.
But lets get back to the Real world of Civ multipalying

nappy with so many players i would suggest.
all civs that aren't at war move first, at the same time the first civ at war moves.
So if there are 4 civs at war and 3 civs at peace, The 3 civs at peace move at the same time. Then then it goes turn based, if rome germany and sioux are at war.
rome moves and says he is done, then germany moves and says he is done, then sioux moves and says he is done. This would save a lot of time.

Hydey wishes to appoligise to all players in this game , Deity led me to believe we where starting at 10 am so I got online well before that to sed through the cricket scores that I have to send in by 10 am every Sunday. I am suffering from a very heavy virus and after playing cricket yesterday I had to go to hospital to be rehydrated, I got out at 8 am and home by 8:30 am . I do not wish any of you to think I am a no show as I really wanted to play this game and would have played every session until the game was over.
Once again Hydey wishes to say sorry and that I hope all of you (not Deity) have an enjoyable game and play it to the finish.

Session One finally got underway.
Sorry about Hydey, but he missed out and Nappy wasn't available either.
I'll write my story later but here's the state of play at 450BC
NB It's clear that I had allocated civs to Hydey and Nappy and I had posted and icq'd the recent scheduled times for playing but Hydey hadn't been online to find that out Not sure what happened to Nappy?
Thanks to bakunine and Zylka and War4ever for filling in - we now have 7 human players!

No worries Nappy. Still don't think we've played together yet?
We must get a game together soon!
I think this game rocks. I love a huge map And agharta's icon collection works really well.
carnide hates it, but oh well
I'll start another thread for the game stories. I'd really like you all to post but of course do whatever makes you happy.
Once again, I'm sorry Hydey. I thought you may have been in the same position as Nappy.

Sorry Cim, but a full house at the moment....
Can you play at the same time as agharta?
This game continues as per last week.
----
I just want to re-iterate that some players seem to take longer than others NOT because they are micro-managing but because their units crawl when moving (even when using the GoTo mouse command) because of CONNECTION SPEED.
Simul speeds up games to some extent but I don't think it's fair to get caught up in this ego-trip of how quick your turns are. It spoils the game for me. I'm just letting everyone know that I'm NOT going to be rushing my turns in the next session. I've worked hard on this map and game settings and am also a bit disappointed in the lack of story-telling
Because my units move so slowly on my 56k connection in Australia I have very little time for microing anyway. You'd have to see my screen to understand what I'm talking about. My microing would take about 15/20 secs per turn at max. I use the F keys to check city builds and happiness. I take a little extra time to line up wholesale WLTPD's.
Tell me this. After all you guys at Apolyton finally convinced me that incremental rush buying was OK; (I never use to do it) do all you guys do it in Simul games? I'd say that would have to be the slowest bit of microing.
My preferences are moving back to turn-based games I think. I'm really enjoying Capo's diplo game which is turn-based (and with wonderful story-telling!) and not that much slower than simul. You get time to think things out and become part of an imaginary world. Simul is looking like a shooter game - great for quick thinking reflexive types Not really the civ I love to savour.
It gets down to our individual preferences - one isn't better than the other. They are different games.

War4 can't make this weeks session but if eveyone else can I think War would be happy for us to find a sub. So, if this is the case would Hydey or Nappy, who missed out on a start in this game, like to pick up the whites? (MP3's) Or anyone else?
