Yin, Here is something else that I think everyone needs to consider.
There are so many ideas floating around, but no body is considering the effects on micro-management that most of these ideas entail.
Just an example: Someone suggested that we need Settlers/Engineers in the Civ sense which can improve tiles only inside the city radius, but to improve tiles outside the city we would use a public works system. While I think this is a good idea, I can see it becoming a micro-headache. There are hundreds of examples of this in our threads. One of Sid's (If he actually has anything to do with this game) biggest achievements has been to try to eliminate as much micro-management as possible and keep the game flowing in the true JOMT tradition.
Do we need a thread for this or should we leave these decisions up to BR etc. after they see what our ideas are?

Meaning of these forums is to allow free flow of ideas, so let's leave it to BR to decide what of them are good.

I'd love to threadmaster a topic. Unfortunately, on weekdays the only access I have to the forums is through work, and while my lack of morals happily allow me to browse these forums and post with abandon, I can't make any commitments like that, since it may interfere with actual work. Thanks for the offer, though.
Thanks for the info, on the gov thread. I gotta go check that out.

Thanks, JT.
zaz, we are in the idea gathering phase. A week or so before July, I'm going to invite the Thread Masters to begin vigorous dicussions on how conflicting or perhaps troublesome issues like the one you raise can be dealt with. I do not plan to merely say, "Time's up! I'm sending the list." Like you say, that's counter-productive.
When I did the SMAC list, I set a very firm date and warned people that their last chance to add ideas was by such and such a date--I then switched to clarification mode, a period of 4-5 days in which I tried to resolve problems publically. I almost always reached a majority decision, and the list was much, much better for having done that.

kmj,
Your boss won't mind non-stop posting to other people's threads, would he? I mean, this is Civ3 we're talking about here. Has the man no soul?

Yin,
You invited me to TM the "Radical" thread? How come I never saw the invitation? Man, there is just too much information on this forum.
I'd love to. Shall I start right away?

Actually, my e-mail address has changed. Take a look.
(Incidentally, the old NYU address hasn't worked in quite some time, so if for some unfathomable reason somebody was actually sending me e-mail and getting pissed off that I didn't answer, that's why.)
I updated it. Thanks.

Rong,
Please do. But please make sure you read and can agree to the Thread Masters' Creed. Also, as I'm sure you know, this will take a great deal of your time. Well, of course you knew that...Please start the thread this way just to be consistent:
RADICAL IDEAS: Hosted by Rong
I hope the title is o.k.--I think the idea there is clear enough. Your first duty, then, should be to summarize all the radical ideas to this point and make that your first post.
Something I'd like to see at the very top, though, is just what you mean by a "Radical" idea. Looking at the other threads, a lot of those ideas are radical, too. But I have received more than a few requests that this topic be added, so I trust that people know that this is necessary. I look forward to seeing it. Thanks, Rong--and welcome aboard!

Singularity, if you are still with us, I took you off the UNITS thread. If you would like to Thread Master another topic, please let me know.
