First... Having CivII isn't enough. You must have a copy of Civ Multiplayer Gold Edition.
Second, you must load the latest patch, since all players must have the same patch or there will be BIG PROBLEMS... You can download the latest patch from this site. The activision/hasbro site doesn't have it anymore (or it didn't the last time I checked)
Then, go to ICQ.com and download Icq... and instant messaging package.
You don't need it to play, but most of us use it to set up games.
Post your intention and availability on this site, or look for threads from other people looking for games... There is an ICQ list in this forum with other players listed.
If you just want to mess around and learn, got to the "zone"... you can find a game there pretty quick... it has a "bad" reputation, but it's good for getting experience.
