Yin,
COMBAT summary should be done and posted by 1:00 A.M on September 3rd at latest. Anybody out there remember Differential Equations well enough to help me with my homework?
By the way, can you lock down the Units v2.0 thread as well as the Units v2.0 Summary on the Summary/About the List forum?

Hi all again
I have an idea
we should point out the good ideas in smac and the civ2 (and ctp) and the bad ideas in those games so that firaxis knows what to work on
so how about it

Jon,
If you help techno with his homework, we'll let you work like a slave for no pay and start that thread.
Actually, it might be helpful to approach it from your angle, but it will take time to work it through, certainly not a list 2.0 but maybe a 2.5 or 3.0 thing. And it would also be easier to keep things clear: A "good things" "bad things" split would help a great deal instead of mashing them all together.
Well, what do you TMs think? Jon, watch this space for a day or two to see what people think. Of course, you could always start on the general forum and transfer it here later if it takes off...

Jon:
That sounds like a good idea for a thread. Out of the three games you've mentioned I've only played SMAC, but with that game alone you could fill a novel (or at least I could, although most people would settle for a few pages) with a "good idea, bad idea" list. And that's not counting C:CTP, which from the horror stories I've heard could fill an entire novel with the "bad idea" list alone.

Urm. Umm... the customization thread got like 16 posts, almost 10 of which were mine, and the AI thread got about 4 new posts since last time around.
Do you want a writeup of that?

Mindlace,
You can't squeeze water out of a rock...unless it's a really wet rock, I guess.
If there's nothing to add, don't worry. Maybe we could use your expert abilities on one of the other threads?

Okay... the summaries of Terrain and Wonders are now up and as final as they're going to get. For now, anyway. I'm not usually one to play for sympathy, but I have stayed up all night to meet this deadline . Ye gods, I'm so tired, I'm actually using emoticons...

technophile has failed to meet deadline. I sit here now, 11:45 at night, I'm still less than a quarter of the way through the summary, and I've got a test tomorrow. So, I'll have to finish this weekend--Sunday night at latest, barring any unforeseen setbacks. Sorry folks, but I'm going to bed.

EnochF and Techno:
I feel your pain. When I decided to revamp the entire version 1 list (for the 3rd time), I looked at the 180+ page count and thought: "What the hell am I doing? This is sick. Just send it already." But I couldn't. I just couldn't. I ignored my wife and baby for a few days, sleeping just a few hours, and generally became an ass at work (more than usual) and a ghost at home (more than usual, but my wife is used to that when a new game I want comes out).
I guess it's a sickness. But let me just say: Thanks. Get it to me and Shiny as soon as you are ready...by the way, if you are sleeping now or in any way preparing for a test, I would ask you to please rethink your priorities.

AHHHHHH!
I finished that stupid Combat summary, and now I can't post it! You don't know how hard I have to control myself in order to not put my fist through my computer screen.
Anyway, I'm sending you the goods, Yin. Hope you get them, otherwise they'll go up on the forum tomorrow.

techno:
My friend punched his computer screen once (he was working on a difficult math problem and couldn't get the answer to work). I came into the room with him huddled over a broken monitor. Crying.
It was one of the saddest displays in human history. Not only that, it reminded me of all the times I punched my computer screen but managed to catch it before it fell.
Of course, I wasn't solving a complicated math problem. I was trying, no doubt, to beat a computer game. Anyway, don't punch monitors. Punch things that don't matter--like the floor and small rodents...

It's up! Combat summary has been posted! Finally!
I'll be leaving the combat summary exactly where it is (the end of Combat 2.0), and will be going back to edit instead of reposting the entire thing every time I make a small revision. After a few days I'll start a new topic (combat 3.0 hosted by Theben) and will have the "final" summary be its first post. At that time I will also put Combat on the Summaries thread.

Combat 2.0 needs locking down, as does the Combat Summary in Summaries/About the List. I've given everyone ample warning, so I daresay that the Combat posted in the summary is the final list version. Of course, if Theben returns before the list goes out this is all pending his approval, since it's his thread.

Technophile, You've done a lot of work on the COMBAT thread so it's as much your thread as mine, although I'd say that no one really "owns" a thread. We all put our hard work into the various ideas.
Shining1, will you be summarizing the Region/City Menu thread? I, and I'm certain Ember as well, would like to see our thoughts in the next list.

Have returned to South Carolina just in time to assist a couple hundred evacuees… Sure am glad we don't have hurricane micromanagement in Civ!
Movement and my Resource/Support aren't being completely neglected, but sometimes the real world gets in the way of being "productive."

Checking in, but with major problems.
Due to an unexpected job shift, I have been unable to get on the web for about 3 weeks now, couldn't make my summary yet.
Things will not improve on short term, I have no more PC at home, my new one late to arrive. I guess I'll be able to browse again within this and one week (this one is an exception)

Ideally we should find volunteers to do the work. This happened on version 1 also, but not to this extent. If we can't find volunteers, we'll just have to send what we have and hope Brian wants a version 3 (final?).
If that's the case, we can setup for a final round with new TMs in place. What do you think? Is there a better way?

I was thinking that having two TM's for every thread would be a good idea, since things always turn up and I don't think that you'll ever be able to avoid last-minute substitutions. This way there will always be at least two people who supposedly know what is going on.
This might, however, be more trouble than it is worth. Personalities conflict sometimes, and if the co-TM's hate each other then it would be worse than having no TM at all. So you've really got to weigh the good versus the bad heavily on this one.

I would recommend against 2 TM's per thread.
Sigh.. give me an email whenever you want the summary, yin, it's been ready for awhlie. Like since the beginning of August.
