I would love to be the one to summarize it, but I don't have the time (college apps, major research projects, etc.), and anyway, over at the Firaxis boards, three of us (CormacMacArt, the Joker, and myself) have posted highly developed "version 2" SE proposals that would resist summarizing due to the integrated nature of our respective ideas. I think that ideally, Firaxis would take the time to examine each SE proposal individually & without a summation in order to really understand some of our more advanced ideas, as well as some of our problems (city-states spring to mind). I'm sure I don't speak for only myself when I say that it would really be best for Firaxis to look at the SE posts themselves rather than a simplified summary, but for some reason I doubt that that would happen...

Well, I have downloaded all the threads unaccounted for, not including SPACE EXPLOITATION and TECHNOLOGY, and only my part of SE/GOVT as well as the last bits of PLAYER INTERFACE, which I'm betting I can scatter among other List threads. I also have separated the pre-ver. 1.2 posts of COMBAT and plan to give them my attention.
That said, ANYONE who feels that they can summarize one or more of these threads, I'll e-mail my .doc to you. I highly doubt I can do them all myself, but if no one steps forward I'll try. 2 things though: One, whoever does a summary will put their bias in it, even if unintentional. That means if I do them it's MY bias going into the thread; even though I don't plan to I'm sure it'll happen. Two, BR and Firaxis aren't going to wait for us. The sooner it gets done the better for everyone.
You can complain...or you can DO SOMETHING. Nuff said.

As for the SE/GOVT thread, my proposal is this: everyone summarize all their ideas only. Then someone can just send them all to BR as a collection of SE summaries, with the comment of "we had several different proposals for SE ideas" or some such.

Theben,
If people are still around and want to do that, good idea. That said, I will support you and the other people doing summaries 100%! If there are biases, hell, at least it got sent. NO COMPLAINING!

Why not just simply send the SE proposals themselves as, in light of the fact that there are only (maybe, about) seven or so, they really aren't all that long (except maybe mine ). The proposals at Firaxis are rather self-contained and can be taken outside the context of the "conversation," and I'm sure the ones here are as well. When given just the final product (i.e., the different proposals) and not the ambient noise (i.e., the debates, discussions, etc.), I'm sure that Firaxis could digest the SE ideas. Am I totally off base here?

TECHNOLOGY is in, and SPACE EXPLOITATION is available for anyone who wants to tackle it. I have no interest in summmarizing that thread, personally.

Thanks for the updates TechyPhil! Now all we need are Space E and the SE/Govt collaboration (plus leftover Combat & Other, but that's my problem, arrrgh).

What can I say? You guys are AMAZING! Just when I thought we'd send about half a dozen summaries, you guys step up and look at this--everything we hoped would be summarized is dangerously close to being summaried!!!
Well, I look forward to the last few summaries coming. PLEASE send me an e-mail so I don't miss anything, since this is pretty hectic at this point. Let's finish THIS WEEKEND...then I'll send a nice, shiny (400+ page?) document to Markos on Monday.

Oh yes. Thank you, Yin. Thank you! Something came between *again* last night and I couldn't work on my summary.
Hope I can finish it now.

Do I have to spell-check with American or British English? And certain words are always wrong, like the abbrevations 'civ' or 'tech'. What to do with them?

M@ni@c,
Don't worry about the abbreviations, since everybody uses those. As for the spelling variant, either is fine. Heck, I'll just be happy you spell-checked using ANY variant!
Hope to get the e-mail soon,
Yin

I'm taking a break now and I wonder something. Which font do I have to use? Currently I'm using Times New Roman - 12.
Ok?

By the way, I've added your basic criticism to my introduction, since I think many people agree with you. I certainly do.
M@ni@c's position is this (correct me if I'm wrong):
We've been writing our ideas with no guidance from Firaxis, which has made things here difficult (and a bit uninspiring). Of course, we can all understand why Firaxis might not want to be too specific at this point (perhaps they are still making decisions themselves and can't give us much feedback yet). Blair Wolf's call for feedback on the interface, though, is hopefully a trend that will continue.
Now, M@ni@c worded it a bit more strongly, but I think that's the basic spirit of his concern. I plan to add it to my introduction just to let Firaxis know we are more than willing to work on specific issues if they are thrown our way.
