Personality Types and Civ Play
I was chatting with someone recently and it turned out we had both taken a professional personality type-determining test. I thought the types applied to Civ, and the other person did not.
The test in question is the Myers-Briggs test (also referred to in general as "scocionics"). It is used frequently by companies to assist employees in understanding their own prefferred ways of dealing with others and to assist them in understanding the different ways other employees operate.
The 4 basic pairs of personal traits are extrovert/introvert, sensing/intuititive, thinking/feeling, and judging/perceptive. I won't describe the meaning, as one would really have to take the test to know about oneself, you can't just decide based on the labels.
1. Are you familiar with this personality test?
2. Do you know your 4 letter code?
3. Does it seem to apply to your method of playing Civ?
4. If you care to give your type code and explain why it does or does not apply to your Civ play, that would be excellent.
I am an ISTJ and it seems to reflect my Civ strategy very accurately.

I am INTP, and I think the middle two definitely apply to my Civ play: conceptualization and logical strategizing. I would expect that "j"s would be micromanagers, while "p"s are more reckless. ;-) My "p" rating at the end is weak, though; I'm almost half "j." I guess that does fit my Civ style: I'm not a micromanager, but I absolutely hate wasting things (shields, food, a turn with a unit - especially a settler - whatever).

Curumbor - I agree that the middle 2 letters are most important to Civ play. It is much easier to be a outspoken "I" given the relative anonimity of the internet than in real life, so the E/I thing is not so big a deal. And most things I have read on the subject suggest that the last letter is not as significant as the others (the often present it in lower case letter).
I will be very interested to see how the middle letter combinations show up, if there is a large enough sample of responses.
Thank you for posting.

Hmm, can you see a pattern after only 4 posts?
I am also a ISTJ though like Curumbor, my j/p was almost 50/50 if I remember right, (test taken just last autumn).
Interesting to see how this turns out, I hope that enough of you have taken the tests that we can see how it turns out. I saw this online shortly after taking the tests too, any chance of posting a link to allow other civers to see how they compare? or does anyone know where this can be found?

Actually you could perhaps cross relate this to The Git, The Borg etc....
ISTJ - my PREFERENCES
Introvert - my PREFERENCE in relating to the world
Sensing - I prefer to trust the info I acquire through my senses rather than inuition
Thinking - I prefer to analyse and sort info acquired rather than operate on the basis of what I feel
Judging - I prefer to decide by judging rather than being perceptive
This is a bit crude but it's what I remember.
(We are all operating across the whole spectrum at different times so these are our preferred modes)
Also I'm pretty extreme on the scale for most of these indicators.
As far as civ goes I suspect The Borg are ISTJ's, maybe wrong....
But, I like to expand solidly with excellent defence and an infrastructure that is tightly connected by roads for trade, and maximising the usability of minimal units. I like to build a smaller highly productive civ with max pop. I like to be completely grounded and have total control over less, rather than less control over more.

Yes, I'd love to take a stab at you Capo
I reckon for Capo:
E = Extrovert
N = Intuitive
T = Thinking
P = Perceptive
He's a friggin ENTP!
ENTP's make brilliant CEO's but have a glaring weakness. If they get it wrong they are totally screwed! I think this fits nicely for civ.....

Talk about ASKING for it... LOL!
I'm sure a lot of people (not me) could offer all *sorts* of interesting 4-letter suggestions. But I just wanted to deflect the idea before it ocurred to someone else "less restrained".

Actually I was referring to civ cave, not real life.
And http://keirsey.com is probably the best place to take the test.

Civ Style is almost opposite of personal life. In my civ, everything must be in perfect order. Definetly a perfectionist. But in my personal life, I'm anything but.

Just took a quick test on the site Boan provided. I got a XN*TJ
The Only significant one is Intuitive 90%. TJ's are 55% and the 1st one is 50% which gave me an X But I am more of an I. so iNtj is it.
I think it applies to my civ playing.
From another Keirsey test, I got a NF.

I'm in denial. Not over the results particularly, but...
There's no way this test result correllates with style of Civ play. No way.
I can't go into detail, because as I said, for reasons, I'm in denial.
