Resignation
Over the past few days, I've been surprised at some things said and done by people I've known for many months, and by myself too. I'm surprised that people think it's OK to break the rules so long as it favors them in a game, but I'm even more upset that I would get so riled over something so insignificant. I should put this whole incident behind, but that I can't do. It's not a matter of a stupid size 2 city or even a big game that I worked hard to set up. It's not even a matter of principle (though it was that at first). I don't have the heart to finish this game, or any other for that matter, in the atmosphere of suspicion and rancor that has arisen. So I'm resigning from Civ forever.
Goodbye friends! Maybe I'll return when Civ3 gets released.

Curumbor man, what are you doing?
This wasn't personal. I tried to quit like you, but quitting doesn't help anything, it doesn't help anyone. I asked everyone in the group what I should do after I quit, and they all told me that I should continue with my cause. So I did. You can't possibly act like this Curumbor, I respect you far too much for this. What about your standard modpack? It had so much potential.
Don't do this, this isn't right. You know it isn't right. The best way to get back at me, get back at everyone is to do well, its to fight and defeat me. Don't turn your back on what you believe in, no matter how hard the fight is.
I am pleading with you Curumbor Elendil, do not leave. The community needs you!

This is not right!
To resign at the point where the vote is known and not going your way is really spoilt and is unfair to yourself and all of us.
The time for arguing is over I guess when you bring the heart into but that's one hell of a big card to play
Everyone agrees that Capo probably technically broke the rules.
What we voted on was whether we should replay or continue with a reprimand etc. The vote is to play on and agree on the punishment!
You even agreed that you, Elendil, technically broke the rules when you didn't declare war on Markus at the beginning of the Simul turn earlier in the game. We accepted your story and played on without replay.
For God's sake we want you back here!
And don't feel a goose if you change your mind. We've all got upset in threads before.
Like AH and I had a raging fight for months!
Well, guess what?
We actually met in real life at finbar's house on Saturday night and had dinner together
I left in one piece

Why would you want to give up on playing civ because of what happens in one game, give up on that one game maybe, argue and complain about that one game maybe but not stop playing a game you have enjoyed for a long long time.
Give yourself a few days or weeks off and then decide if you never want to play CIV 2 MP again. Just my suggestion

Sorry to see you depressed by this, Curumbor. I hope you get a second wind and come back after a break...

I hope you change your mind, but I hear you.
I absolutely hate the time lost in playing a game of Civ that is suspect.
Not like you can go to the store and get a case of beer and 5 years of life to go.

I'm baffled
But CE is right to leave if the fun is gone. If the interest isn't there and the fun has been sucked out, continuing just doesn't make sense. But like others suggest, maybe its just a small vacation that you need. Take some time........but give returning some thought....

You might have been the straw that broke the camels back capo, but I find it highly un-likely that a single person could cause such a drastic decision for another.

I also hope it is just a short vacation from the game. There have always been VERY HEATED debates and arguments over things that have happened in games. But yes, when the "thrill" is gone, it is time to take a break.
So Curumbor Elendil... I hope you don't wait until CivIII comes out.
You will be missed by the civ community!

Don't give up civ.
Sylvestor the cat would not have said this. In the cartoon he ALWAYS comes up with a new aproach to reach the goal, in his case being Tweety Bird.
And in Sylvestor's case since he never actually caught Tweety, and in Civ "THE ULTIMATE PERFECT" game is ever elusive...

CE:
"ian - please dont beat yourself up about it! it has nothing to do with you or anyone else, it has only to do with me. i let my competitiveness get the better of me. now i cant imagine playing another game of civ. please let them know this at apolyton - this is not to 'get back' at anyone, and im not 'resentful' in any way. i just dont have the will to play anymore."

Curumbor Elendil... Just because you don't have the desire to play civ at this time doesn't mean you still can't post at Apolyton
