Oh give me a break you two. I let hydey gets some 40 extra units and still I'm the villain? I made my views very clear on unit bribing.

Mmmm. What about shepherding units with spies and partisans?

Well I think that is daft too. I objected to that when makeo first did it to me.
My objection to unit bribing is based on the fact that armies simply do not go around in pairs like mormons. As someone who spends so little on defence and dislikes war, I'm surprised you support it. For me, its not a big problem, just silly.

Fair enough. For the record, my Civ objections - and, conversely, preferences - aren't based on what might or might not happen in the real world. Civ clearly isn't the real world.

True, but that doesn't mean that it has to completely depart from reality, which is what unit bribing does. Ask Hydey about it after my next turn

Ah. A shift in tack. Thus the question becomes, where would you draw the line? What's valid and what's not in terms of the real world?

Does a tree stand in the forest if no-one can see it there?
The game last night has raced along. Its 1750. Are you planning to try and build a spaceship finbar?

As I remarked to you on ICQ after we'd finished last night (but you'd gone), I can't quite fathom my tech and Wonder lead in this game. My first 3 or 4 cities live on rivers, I know, but beyond that, my world is only average. This morning I noticed a post in one of the other forums to the effect that science happens differently on a small map. I wonder if that has something to do with it.
SS? Dunno. We'll see.

I'm just glad to have influenced the siting of your coastal cities
I'm not that far behind you, ahead in some areas. Why didn't you want to trade techs last night? That's not very friendly.

Well, I've only got about 3 coastal cities on my mainland and they were situated according to available specials. Though I take your point.
I didn't knock back any tech trades that I recall. In fact I can't even recall you ringing me up to trade anything. Did you try? I had massive problems contacting my allied players in the Millennium Diplo game last week. Their attempts to contact me were disappearing into thin air and vice versa. I hope this isn't a developing pattern.

You know, in a lot of our games I think Hydey is like the people who buy a ticket on the bus or the train and then just ride around all day.

If only it were a weekend away. Two out of the three are unavoidable commitments, and not travelling more than 5ks for any of them.

Wish I could play, but not at least for a couple of weeks. I'm still in the caravan park, saving cash and stuff for a house. Won't be long now.
Got me a free staff internet account but can't use it cos I got no phone line where I'm at. Grrrr!
Can't wait to back in the games...

Tonight we had a perfect example of why bribing units is a daft idea. Last turn of last session I bribed a battleship Hydey had brought up to attack my cities. First turn of this session I used that battleship to attack and take his capital. Does that make any sense at all? It doesn't to me.
Oh! Hydey took a city off me tonight. I'm going to teach my son everything I know.

Seems perfectly reasonable to me.
Sorry about last night, lads. Got immersed in my work, didn't get around to putting on the Slow-Braised Lamb Shanks until about 6.30pm, didn't eat till 9.30pm, didn't strain the new batch of Brown Chicken Stock till 10pm, didn't finish cleaning up till 11pm. Just one of those crazy nights, I guess.

We had fun. This old game is kind of like a practice war for Hydey and I. I'm sure we're both getting something out of it because its unusual in our games to get modern units to play with. I find cruisers for example are wonderful for those annoying barb outbreaks. You only need one
