Played the 3 hander with Hydey and finbar last night. The interesting part of this game is finbar has all the crucial wonders and a third more cities but the Horse empire is doing quite well. I passed finbar in pop last night. This seems to confirm Markusf's theory that wonders are unnecessary and can be a distraction. Looks like this game will lead to a space race.

Obviously you can achieve most (if not all) of the Wonder-benefits without actually building the Wonders themselves. Build the appropriate happiness improvements, for example, and you've duplicated the effects of the happy Wonders. The Wonders save time, shields and money, that's all. I don't think anyone has ever argued that Wonders guarantee success.

So are you going to build a spaceship?
Btw I will be in Sydney this weekend if you want to meet Horse in person. I suggest we meet in a fine Italian restaurant for a long lunch in say Darlinghurst (i used to haunt a few) and get really shickered on Chianti. Deity can come too if he's free and doesn't have 58 conditions. Sunday would suit me. Mrs Horse is staying in Canberra.
Alternatively I could bring my children to your house and get them to hassle your dogs. Or I could just go home on Sunday as I planned. No sweat either way.

Why don't you come for Sunday lunch? Or Saturday night dinner? How many foals will you have with you? If any?

Hmmm, well my plans are to drive up Good Friday and then take the sprogs to the Royal Easter Show on Saturday, so I'd be available Saturday night or Sunday. I could do Saturday evening or Sunday lunch. I wouldn't bring the kinder with me - they can stay with Ma and Pa Kettle (AKA my parents).
However, I'm a bit worried about coming to your house because I'm afraid there might be a life size portrait of Kerry Packer in the vestibule. Also I warn you I am not a good eater at dinner parties. I am a good talker but once lubricated I can be quite boorish and I don't have a thing to wear because my children are well dressed. Also, I talk with my hands and tend to knock glasses over so don't use the good crystal or table cloth. Finally, I don't consider out of town flings adultery so if you know any single broad minded women who are captivated by wit and might like me and save me the long drive back to Como on Saturday evening, invite them too.
And no matter how awe inspiring the experience of meeting me might be, you would of course be bound not to reveal to the riff raff here what I'm really like.

Make it Saturday night then. The kinder would love Dermott - the Old English - but they might get bored after several hours patting and cuddling him. Once he finds someone to do same, he never lets up.

There's one who probably measures up. Failing that, we have a spare room in case too much Chianti and Pino Griggio is quaffed. And we do a great Sunday breakfast - slow-roasted tomatoes, home-made hash browns, eggs and bacon and toast. Bit of a bugger the cappuccino machine's out of action, but we've been managing with some improvisation.

Bad news finbar, I'm afraid I won't be able to make it to Sydney this weekend but in my place I'm sending one of my minions. He's a drab, conservative little public servant, you know the type, but he has a very nice family and is generally house trained, if dull. He's taking his wife with him too, who is frankly the better half of the couple.
For God's sake don't arrange any female company for him, he's a loyal little bugger and would probably have a palpitation.
*sigh* I hope won't be too disappointed with him.

Er wife sex jokes are not nice Hydey.
But anyway I thought it would be better if you stay in Melbourne and then we contact you on icq. If you played up I was looking forward to sending, "Oh go and have another pie Hydey!" and "Yes thank you finbar, I'll have more of the 78."

Well I think that is daft too. I objected to that when makeo first did it to me.
My objection to unit bribing is based on the fact that armies simply do not go around in pairs like mormons. As someone who spends so little on defence and dislikes war, I'm surprised you support it. For me, its not a big problem, just silly.
