The problem of the workers rearranged by AI seems to happen to all

What happens if we all have "Kill civ on retirement" enabled? Will we ever meet and interact with each others' civs (since my empire crumbles into dust, ceases to exist)?

And how do we avoid that the AI sells us out when (if) we meet?

Carolus - your civ crumbles into dust if you quit/retire. What we're doing is saving the game and sending it on, so that won't happen. Interaction will be minimal, since we can't talk to each other on the F3 screen. But that means the AIs can't do anything stupid. And caravans, diplos, and military units can still do their things...

"The noble leader of the friendly Sioux is pleased with history as it has unfolded thus far. Although being an isolated and lonesam world, its soil and sea have proven to be bountiful. It is with great interest and curiousity the Sioux each day hear of other tribes, some seemingly similar and one seemingly different having more units than the sky has stars.

The curiousity stems from the fact that although the world is wonderful it is also wonderless and travels across the vast seas are so dangerous that only the bravest or most foolish sioux warriors dare participate in such endeavours. Not until safer ways of crossing the ocean have been developed and mastered will Sioux ships steer towards friends and foes. Or do these other tribes possess knowledge that is yet unheard of?

No, the Sioux War Council has drunk of its deep wells of wisdom and proclaimed that no danger will appear for centuries to come. By that time new generations of sioux warriors with more powerful weapons will walk the earth, ready to give their lives to protect their families and friends.

The leaders of these mysterious, other tribes shall hence not believe that the Sioux is a weak nation. Given that the various sioux tribes can agree on the buffalo hunt to be when two full moons have passed, the sioux nation will unite. Like five fingers turning into a fist...

The Egyptians find their homeland to be a large and productive one, capable of sustaining many cities. Rather than waste the kingdom's resources on temples, the wise queen Cleopatra is using martial law to convince her populace of the wisdom of further expansion.

Since the laws of this world allow technologies to be acquired only through research, the queen is following the way of the great wise one Xin Yu and hiring scientist to advance the kingdom's knowledge. Let the dissolute ones of the world spend their precious trade on golden cups and hold celebrations in honor of their leaders. Cleopatra will rule her subject with an iron fist and devote all her resources to growing her kingdom's size and knowledge.

"Indeed, the legends spoke the truth! How could we doubt their content? Generations of Sioux have felt the sun's warm rays of light and have been laid down to eternal rest, and not once have they been wrong before..."

"Alas, it seems that not all inhabitants of this garden of Eden are as peaceful as the Sioux. Our hearts are sad as we hear of some tribes' hardship and enslavement. The way of the iron fist is not unknown to the Sioux, who long ago fought ferociously for centuries against a pale tribe and nearly succumbed to the white man's greed and thirst for blood."

"The legends speak of many, many dead Sioux warriors, women and children. Extinction seemed inevitable when the white devils suddenly started fighting amongst themselves. The South of their conquered territories wanted their freedom, which the North refused to grant, and the white tribe was thrown in a bloody civil war giving the Sioux Nation enough time to heal its wounds. Generations later, when the North-South stalemate had spilled millions and millions of white men's lifes, and the Sioux had recouped, vengeance struck without mercy."

"The battles of Snake Canyon, Lost Plains, Twoheaded Bear Forest, Eagle Eye Canyon, Moose River, The Revenge at Wounded Knee... The final betrayal of the capitols in North and South, respectively, and the following massacres... Dark chapters in our history which demanded enormous amounts of sacrifices from our own people... The Sioux have suffered volantarily under the rule of the iron fist to secure its existence... Never again shall such a barbaric reign be adopted, unless the same ultimate threat of extinction once again rears its ugly head..."

Vikings! Hear Crustacian!!

As we look to the sea and what unknown adventures await us far beyond our sacred fishing banks, remember how it has from ancient time been said:

"Row yourself to the battle, enemies will crumble under mighty arm as axe and sword you rattle"

Maybe only the great sea dragons will await us, maybe strange new lands with people like ourselves. Our own land as you have reported is vast but you are all welcome as brothers, not subjects, to fill it with vinyard, field, song, and laughter.

A word has been whispered that ships you do not row, and weapons you do not draw can be devised. Then if true even old men can become active warriors again!!

The source of the gold has been found high in the alpine summits near Crusthavn by a young lad searching for a lost arrow. All will receive a share to the 1000th generation it is so vast. The vein itself pokes out of the ground and tumbles down the slopes as if it were a lava flow of gold.
With the rest we can use wisely in time.

This is what I have spoken.

Now KNOW!
BE CONTENT!
LOOK!...far beyond the setting sun!
Bring me good news and many fine things for our people.

Any chance of going on-line with this one in the near future?

Nothing scheduled, although my trips are sometimes rather last-minute affairs. I've been at home for several months now; it's been great for my family life, but has greatly reduced my Civ playing.

I'm enjoying PBEM on this game; the turns are proceeding at a good pace, and I can manage a large number of cities and units without feeling guilty about holding up the game.

But on what rules did we agree?
Any besides the Apollo-wonder-only rule?

No tech stealing or trading, no city bribing, no alliances, as I recall. Foreign trade routes are allowed, but incoming caravans are fair game . No tech from city capture (in scenario settings).

The last five or six turns my workers have been rearranged by the AI. Nothing serious, but very annoying to shuffle them back every time. Anyone else experiencing this and any tips on how to prevent it? I press ctrl+n every time before saving the game.

I've seen this intermittently. Are you cycling through all your city screens prior to pressing ctrl-n? I'm speculating that may make a difference. If not, it may be purely random?

Yes, I am. Just to check that everything is ok before I save the game. Sometimes I have an active unit left to move when doing it, sometimes it's the last thing I do ("press enter to end turn" is flashing in the background while I check the cities).

Yep and Apollo only wonder. Japanese may not settle in polar areas *just kidding*

It was asked earlier if there was any chance of rejoining online sometimes with this game. It may be that there is such a chance if we can arrange it.
what do you think of that now?

My workers have changed a little too, but it is not a serious problem either. I do not know how to avoid it myself

We can go on-line when DaveV is on a business trip. Lonely nights at hotels are fertile ground for MP games!

The question thus is: when is the next trip, DaveV?

And, conversely, nights at home are not good for MP. Sorry to be a stick in the mud, but PBEM is the best I can manage for the immediate future. I'll keep you posted on any future travel plans.

May i offer my services as a sub?
This sounds like the sort of game that is tragic to (once AGAIN) let fade away. Particularily amoung such an esteemed group.

Know exactly where Dave(Forgetful French), is coming from or not going to(?).
We are both in the same PBEM contest.

If it will help keep this (or any) game going to the point that some of us Civ MP players can actually MP in the Industrial & Modern ages(!)... i want to help.

With permission, i will sub for &/or co-manage &/or take over, his or another player's civ.

When is best times for this group now...?
==============================================
I in turn, would like any of U good players to keep an eye on the "Blood Oath" thread. Despite the oath, we may need a sub occasionally to make to the promised lands & eras.

Spread the Word about helping prevent this non-continuence we know all-to-well & the fruastration of whence i speak.!
In fact i may start a thread about this very issue.
C U there, or help if i can help here.

What? Not settling in the polar region? Who will spread the word of god to the ice monsters now?

I am sorry to say that I also won't have enough time for an online session... I am glad that I have just enough time to get managed my email turns at the moment

Carolus: Yes, in almost every turn I also experience this rearrangement of workers, and it is indeed annoying. Unfortunately I have no idea why this happens...
But I guess it must have to do something with the civ versions which are incorporated in the PBEM game. In another civ game, this things didn't happen until some american players got into the game (sorry, Crusty & Dave, nothing against you ). Perhaps the american civ version is slightly different to that of the european / UK / aussie version? Just another theory...
However, I found a little trick (not a good one I admit). Before your turn starts, AI is doing something, but in this time & if you can click very fast, you might manage to reorder the workers to your likes. Sometimes you need some reloads to manage it in time before your turn starts, but sometimes it is the only chance you have to rescue your civ for anarchy due to stupid AI worker reordering...

KenThur: Many thanx for your offer
However, I think this PBEM game is still moving on relatively fast (compared to another one we both know ), so there seems to be no evidence for a game-death before end (lucky ones we are - good work up to now )

As the calendar reckoning changes from B.C. (Bountiful Cleopatra) to A.D. (Aegyptian Dominance), the Egyptian wise men present Cleopatra with what little information they have discovered on the other so-called civilizations:

Hark!! A voice from across the great seas? Barely discernible amid the crashing waves near the great Ironworks of Anniestrande, it may be a sign of intellegent life outside our own land. But can our navigaters row far enough to investigate?

Dead right, Smash! And it's a trireme...

We're playing this using Crusty's "equal map". Four identical islands... Triremes won't take you anywhere, no coasts to follow... Hence no invasion armadas until navigation, which noone has discovered (yet! )...

City bribing is allowed and diplos don't count in that listing...

I'm also counting on having some vet units in my coastal cities by the time any uninvited visitors appear...

As I remember it, we had agreed no city bribes, but unit bribing is allowed. Also no tech stealing, so just what are all those diplos going to do for you ?

"The Sioux is now a tribe of considerate navigating skill. Exploration of the worlds beyond the distant waves has begun. Our people is peaceful and no harm will be inflicted on beasts or beauties. Some Sioux wise men have spoken of a mysterious edge of the world and the dangers associated with travelling too close to it. These men are no longer part of the Sioux War Council. Instead they now read fairy tales for the tribe's children, an occupation they have shown to possess a great deal of talent for."
