"And so we have made contact with another tribe. For good or for worse, we do not know. But we are pleased to have found many good islands during our explorations. They seem especially suited for outposts to bring early warnings about future potentially hostile armadas... We must hurry to settle these islands, before other tribes have mastered the skills necessary to tame the wind and make travel across the seas so much safer."

Interesting thread.
What year are you guys up to now???
And Carolus, any interest in trying this with one of our many unfinished games? maybe we could play email turns and continue when all three of us (you, Eddy and I) are available??

Sure!
Only one (minor?) problem, though. We have to make sure the AIs don't sell us out during other players' turns.
1) Is that possible with games that already has started using different options?
2) How is it done in either case (from scratch or with a game that's already running)?
I'm clueless when it comes to these things... The others set this one up, I just play... But I'm sure they can help us.
It's about 340 or 360 AD in the game now.

You can turn it into a scenario and then set the AI attitudes to stay a certain way, and even make it so you stay in a certain government no mater what. <----which is only good if that is your wish

How do I turn it into a scenario? Just save it as a .scn file?
SH, I believe Eddy is on vacation for another week. Maybe when he gets back?

The way it was done in another game was to load the game and go into scenario editor, make the changes, then save as a scenario.

"We hope that the Sioux silk we delievered will produce nice and comfortable stockings. Since it was in demand we have good hope that it will be valuable to the secret receiver (you know who you are ). The nice bonus of many, many gold coins have indeed been useful to the Sioux nation! "

Status report: AD 500. The Egyptians continue peaceful expansion and research on their home continent. Is it pure coincidence that the Egyptians post this report on the very turn when Thebes finally starts celebrating again at size 24? Perhaps not, but 500 is a nice round number ...

Me thinks the Egyptian leader makes extensive use of the 1984 vocabulary. War is peace etc
Hm... I can't get that size 13 capitol to celebrate... Something to do with the number of cities, I suppose? Cause it has the necessary improvements and 3 (good) trade routes... Grrrrrrrr!!!
Kengel, I just sent you my 500 AD save!

It seemed like a peaceful encounter to me. No shots were fired . Besides, I remember someone in another game saying something like "boats sniffling around our shores are not welcome".

Seems like someone is not appreciating the goods we deliever... One caravel mysteriously lost at sea (bribery suspected because its crew was known to be greedy) and one barely hanging in there with a thin red line...
Is the era of peace over? Why not mutually benefit from the flows of goods between our people? Leave the warmongering to the uncivilized, barbarian hordes calling themselves "The Egyptians"!

Warmongering? Moi? You wound me, sir! Egypt has attacked no one; our only contact with the outside world has been the time one of our diplomats attended a party aboard a Japanese trireme. "Uncivilized" and "barbarian" may be more accurate, judging by the small number of white techs on my F6 screen

Aye, peace is gone indeed! The caravel with a thin red line, gone! Even worse, another caravel with three (!) caravans, gone...
The Vikings will be punished for their ignorance and ingratitude! If not now, then in the foreseeable future...
Dave, as you may have noticed I'm not available at your lunch hour. This will be so for the next couple of weeks... I'm at the department, but got an awful lot to do...

Still computerless... soon to be living back at the original Crusthavn by the crystal water.
Hopefully will find a way to take my turns until moved... am undercover at the moment in the job search office PC
As for the alledged acts of WAR off our coast we must deny any knowledge of such things! However even our own sailors must take care around dangerous reefs off our shores, so we can only hope that nothing bad has befallin those enterprizing Souix seafarers with the second grade merchandise.

Heh, heh, heh!
We can only hope that the reefs spoken of do not discriminate between ships of different tribes. Our brave warriors are surely lonely done there at the sea bottom and would appreciate company, especially from the Viking people...

Well the only thing we would speculate as being down there for the company of the seafaring Souix might be the bones of the great slain sea monsters from the old days. Maybe a few tossed rings, and maybe even a sunken village.
It looks like this local library will support my efforts to continue by email Civ, if I will uninstal civ off its hard drive when I am finished!!! So withen a few days if all goes well I will check my email and load up civ, and send off my turns.
Thank you all for your patience, and it will be the middle of August before having own PC set up again.

I don't think this game will die before one of us do so (of course, looking at the mean life time of men one might question if this game will end in time )
I got a message from Crusty just three days ago, telling that he is back, but still having some trouble with his email account. Again I sent the game file to him; he told he looks forward to send on the file as soon as possible...
Meantime, Carolus, would you care to sub for Eddy in our seven player PBEM for some weeks? I don't know if he reached you in time before he left...
Oh yes, even this game is still alive http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...&threadid=1482

Geneva to Crusty, come in Crusty!
We are not letting this one go, are we?
Aye DaveV, now I know by personal experience that lonely nights at hotels (or, in my case, student residences) are fertile ground for civing. I even play conquest games and scenarios!
I think I set a personal record when I conquered a normal map, deity, 7 civs in 740 AD! And it wasn't a one continent world.
Built HG, STWA, LW, SoL (went commie), LH (in that order), conquered with horsemen, knights and (in the latest stage) dragoons.
The Mars scenario is ok, but I find it difficult to assess the new units and techs. Pretty much like starting from scratch, which is fun (and frustrating!).
Anyway, Crusty, a sign of life, please?
