Reply to DarthVeda's Thread
Well, I was forced to start a new thread to reply to Darth's insightful, and accurate post which was locked by MarkG, who has obviously been in the pocket of Activision for a long time now. (You don't mind positive CTP threads that regurgitate the same garbage over and over again, do you Mark?)

Anyway, Call To Power is by far the worst turn based strategy game ever released, and is in good company with the latest Ultima game, and Messiah in being buggy to the point of it being unplayable. Of course all the dorks who loved CTP will rush out and buy this crap, hell, they have probably already pre-ordered it!
You have to give credit where it is due: Activision are fairly smart at ripping off their blindly loyal customers.

Anyway, I'll give CTPII the benifit of the doubt, and go to the extreme trouble of installing it, but they won't be getting a cent of me this time. You owe me Activision. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Bkeela.

Ok, you can lock this up now MarkG. Hell, why don't you just delete it?

or a DL

What can I say: Sure it was buggy and sure it has flaws. But well I think they deserve a second chance and besides Ctp2 sure looks promising!
Whereas I also said that I'll be the angriest and most annoyed if they mess it up!
Its in their hands!

Gee, this guy's not too bright, even for an Aussie, if he's going to sit here and proclaim to the whole world that he's gonna do something illegal. Of course, what do you expect from a nation that allowed it's government to take away all the guns from the law abiding citizens.....

Mark, do any CTPers post derogatory drivel in the SMAC, Civ 3, or other forums? Or is CTP just blessed with these idle minds drifting into here?

Having made my previous statement I do have to agree that DV is justifiably irritated that CTP2 uses the "same technology" as CTP. Yes, he's spouting the same spew he does every 90 days or so, but he's got new information to go with his old questions.

And he's right, this is no more than a glorified patch that we get to pay full price for. The space layer being ripped out and numerous other things led me to believe that this was going to be a whole new game. But it is clearly revealed now that this is going to be nothing more than an expensive patch.

Activision, get some ethics. At the very least you could offer it to CTP1 owners at a substantial discount, say $30US off MSRP. And no mail in rebate either. I don't want my name, address, and phone number sold to Joe's House of Porn to help recoup your "losses".

Mark, there is a big difference between AH who just wants to see how much trouble he can cause, and DV who has some valid complaints.

I hope you realise that's a gross exaggeration. Besides which, it's completely irrelevant.

Ok, it was a cheap shot. I just came from another board and was pretty hot about some gun control issues we're having here in the states. For that, my appologies.

Activision in the deal they struck with Microprose, gained use of the Civilisation title for 1 game plus the option of a Data disc.

It's obvious CTP2 is a glorified version of the planned "Data disc", but by ommiting the name "Civilisation" they get to keep all the money to themselves.

People if you don't mind my intrusion, i think you are jumping the fence a bit too early.

Any comments made on the quality to be of this game is at the very best premature.

We can always say that the game screen shots look good or bad. That some new features looks promising or not. But to say that this game will suck prior of playing it doesn't seem right to me.

Also, the argument that CTPII is bad because it reuse the same engine is a moot point. Many games reuse the same engine (minus some bugs and adding a few improvements) to much success. Reuse of a software library is just plain commmon sense IMHO.

As for me, I will keep my comments to what i know for sure (screenshots, features, etc.) and wait until i actually play the game before commenting on the quality of it's gameplay.

If CTPII is crap, then so be it. I won't loose any sleep over it.

If CTPII is great, so much the better. Although i might loose some sleep playing it until the early hours of the day :-)

Oh well...

Big Dave - Understood. No hard feelings.

Nazgul - Dead right. People shouldn't feel pressured to jump on the CTP hating bandwagon. If you feel positive about the game, let us know about it! There's far too much pessimism in these forums sometimes.

The harsh gun laws of Australia were hastily introduced after the Port Arthur Massacre which was staged by the government to disarm the nation. It was a shame that during such an emotional time, most people weren't aware of the hidden agenda behind this event. We are now easy pickings for invasion, whether that be sanctioned, or otherwise. Martin Bryant was framed for something he couldn't possibly have done. There is SOLID evidence for this. Check out: http://www.biblebelievers.org.au/palies2.htm (Or check out the other numerous websites about this incase your scared off by a link with the term Bible Believer in it.)

Anyway, I don't think Activision is going to pursue a small fish like myself Big Dave, so I'm not as silly as you would believe. I'm paranoid, but not THAT paranoid. Even if THEY did try and raid my house to scrutinise my hard drive, I'll be ready. Not everyone was stupid enough to hand in their guns. Oh yeah, I'll be waiting....Muhawahahahahaha

My only response to your Web page is "Holy $%#@$^%#^!!!!!"

Having said that, let me get back on topic. While Activisions lack of support for CTP was/is deplorable, the game itself hardly rates "the worst turn based strategy game ever released". Yes, it made many fundamental changes to the game of Civ. I believe that most of those changes were beneficial. Alot of people feel otherwise. Why post spew and vitriol in here if you don't like the game? Just don't play it and move on. I don't much care for SMAC but I don't go into those forums and tell them how much the game they like stinks.

And BTW, sorry I lost my objectivity and got personal.
