Great start Markos, except I was a bit disappointed that my computer won't be able to handle it since it requires a 1166MHz computer
BTW what the heck is that giant cockcroach?

it's a crawler, an underwater transport unit
you can get land units under the water with it and attack underwater cities!

From the preview:
quote:
I saw the possible resolutions: up to 1280x1204

Shouldnt this be 1280x1024? At least thats my current Windows Resolution
This is a Typo I guess.

can now actually declare war! Soounds riducullous, but it's true.

NO!!!! This is one of the most useful things!!!!!!
In all civ games now you couldnt declare war at your enemy. All the time you had to nerve him with requests to withdraw his units or else that he declares war on you. Cause when you attacked him without declaring war (which wasnt possible) you got a penalty when talking with others.
So, this is really a very important thing! Thanks a lot Activision!
Btw, the autosave-in-background feature sounds great!

Mark,
We've been told that the AI has gone through a major rewrite. When you have time, could you have a look at the files and tell us what's replaced the FLI (and AIP?) files. Thanks.

Btw, Mark about the declare war thing:
What for example when you want to say:
"Hey you [civ.name] bastard withdraw your damn troops or we are on war!"
Then you need a declare war option for example.
So its all but ridiculous!
ATa
P.S.: I just wanted to express that. I am sure you will be glad such an option exists when you hate somebody, but have not enough reasons to declare war (when he is very advanced for example). Balance of Power Civers for example will also like to use this option!

Great stuff Markos!
I now have a better feel for the game than I got from reading any of the other on line previews. I am looking forward to reading tomorrows installment.
One small question,- what size is your monitor? (I never play CTP, or any similar small unit game in a higher resolution than 800 * 600 on my 15 inch, as I find the detail too small)

I too am glad you can finaly declare war on another civ... is the time-line that was mentioned earlier in development in the game? (I saw a kind on message history in the screen shots, is this what Actvision meant?)... The game is looking good. Thank you for doing this great service for all of us civ fans )

Where are the PBEM comments section. Are they deleted? Couldn't find them in the archives. PBEM items were post after SLIC and before the Civ Number explanation.

This is probably the last question any of you would be thinking of, but I want to know
Markos, how are the wondermovies? Similar to CtP1? Longer? Shorter? Better? Worse?

Hey Mark, what does that castle symbol next to the city name mean? Does that represent the Great Wall?

Well this is truly great! I'm so pleased that the folks at Activision have sent preview copies to Mark and Dan that I'm buying the game before the reviews come out. Apolyton is on the map of the gaming community, and I hope that the folks doing Civ 3 do the same. I feel that the fans are being recognized, and am very pleased.
Mark and Dan....More More More! Lovin it!

The castles next to cities indicate a fortified unit in the city.
Wonder movies- some are the same as Civ:CTP, others are new. All are CG rendered. I'll leave it to Markos for a judgment, but some are posted on http://pc.ign.com

Yeah, it's a once off. The FoW is for the _first_ time you recapture a city. You won't get it after that.
My question would be, "Does every civ get to use this FoW, or is it only for the first civ that takes one of their cities back?"
Thanks for the review, Mark. We expect you to have no sleep!

Mark please take a look at the scenario system! Does it work correctly now?
When in the game you select a Scenario, do the civs to choose from change according to those defined in the scenarios?
Thanks,
Ata

With the declare war option, is there the possibility to demand a neighbour to stop a war with another civ.
Eg. Canadians, leave the Americans alone or will come into this war against you.
This would extremely useful as an alliance offer.

Mark, the new storyline posted by activision seems to indicate that the Senate may once again actively block some of your decisions like declaring war. Can you let us know if you find anything to back this up?

Actually, MrOgre plays the game at 1600 x 1200, and I'm pretty sure it can handle any resolution over 800 x 600.
I'm so happy the game is out. I just want to say howdy to all the CTP2 team members, and don't get too drunk before Friday
