"AutoRenameCities only works if AutoOpenCityWindow is off (and AutoOpenCityWindow actually opens the build queue window)"
Well, this isn't true for me. In my userprofiles.txt file, AutoOpenCityWindow is set to yes and yet AutoRenameCities still works.
BTW, I tried using the reply with quote option, but it isn't working properly for me. It just quotes the last of someone's post and it doesn't show it right either. Any ideas?

Ok, I'm trying to win by Science and I've got like a billion Satellites and Cores built, but nowhere can I see an option to build an Obelisk. What am I doing wrong? Can anyone who has gotten this far enlighten me?

Just a general thread for nuts and bolts issues and dummy questions. My first two are:
1. Can you center the map on the active unit?
2. In the early game I can't propose a knowledge trade in the diplomacy wizard -- any explanation for this?

Is there any way to get rid of the dead tiles from pollution? It seems unfair that they are there forever. Even now, at great expense, countries are trying to clean up polluted sites( Example any superfund site in the US) It should not be easy, but permanent seems a bit harsh for pollution.

There's an advance that lets you terraform/cleanup dead tiles. I don't have my CTP2 docs here so I can't tell you exactly where. Look it up in the Great Library.

ive not got the game but i think its in the public works menu. You have to spread them out around the globe and get atleast 30% coverage. I fyou have a concentrated empire youll have to take over/found new cities around the map. Or demand/trade for them.

If you selecet one catapult - it will bombard with all three in the stack - you can move the knights in teh same turn but you have to bring up the army manager and remove them from teh stack. and i agree it is very anoying - the bombbard button should be available right away if ther is a bombard unit in the stack.

When I need to bombard, I just right click on the stack and Bombard is one of the options listed below, along with pillage, piracy, etc. All units in the stack then bombard.

If they are enemy units, in all likelihood they are destroying tile improvements [i.e. any farms, mines, nets, roads you may have built around your cities].
This is why sometimes you have to crawl out of your hidey-hole and kick the AI's illegitimate invading butt. It's tempting to just hide behind your city walls and wait for the AI to commit suicide by attacking you - but when you do that, your enemies can #$^% up your entire empire's improvements.

Well then, William Wallace is going to get no more
gold per turn until this is over!
And I think I'll hurt him.

Only Fortified (or Garrisoned) units are considered "in" the city. You can always see all units on a tile from the Unit Tab on the Control Panel. Just select a unit and press the right arrow that is next to the unit name on the Unit Tab. This will show the multi-view of all units and armies that are on that tile. Including the units in the city.

Obviously right clicking brings you to the army manager
at the top of the list.

You have to pirate every turn. You will receive a pirate flag and animation on the trade route tile that you pirate. The amount of money gained is the amount that the trade route would normally give (the empire that owns the route) for that turn. You may have a difficult time finding this gold though. If you are losing money in any of your cities, it will be diverted there first.
Are you sure your route is not still being pirated? Another AI unit might be pirating it at a different spot.

I am confused by the bombardment interface.
Let's suppose I have an army that contains 4 knights and 3 catapults. I move it up to an enemy city, and I want to bombard it.
It looks like I have to open the list of units in the army window and actually select one of the catapults, and only then I get the "bombard" action. Is there a quicker way to get there?
Then, the catapult I selected did its job, and now the whole army is out of action points. That means that when I select a different catapult, it does NOT bombard this turn?!? This looks like a bug, doesn't it? Do I have to move all bombarding units in separate stacks if I want each of them to have a shot at the enemy?
Thanks -- Aub
