How do I get more than 8 civs in a game?

Go to Userprofile.txt and on the line that reads "number of civs" change that number to some number + barbarians. That is an "18" means 17 civs, including your own plus the barbarians.
If you want civs with revolutions to split into another civ and not become a barbarian city, then change "maxcivs" to some number higher than the "number of civs" value.
You might want to check other threads that report some problems when the number of civs exceeds 32.

I actually managed to stumble across it on my own in the end when playing with that text file, but thanks for the help. I haven't had much time to investigate this stuff thoroughly recently you see, but thanks

Where do yah make the map larger than Gigantic?
I tried changing ..MapSize from 3 to 8 but got an error.....
