Very disappointing indeed......
Talk about being let down. The new interface is rather disappointing. I actually preferred CtP1's interface.
I want those box messages telling me what's been built and where and the option to center there. I want to be able to place my workers where I want them. I want the "Maximise" options. I want the space level of playing.
A lot of good things were cut out of CtP2 for some reason. Even the diplomatic options seem a bit limited.
If you ask me, they should have simply gotten the diplomacy model, AI, borders system, and map editor and simply added it to CTP1.

I'm finding the interface very slow...I like ctp1's better as well I think. When I was having unhappiness because my empire was too big I found that while you could go to the city manager screen from the national manager screen, you could not go back to the national manager screen from the city manager. So when about a quarter of my cities needed entertainers, I either needed to cycle through every city in the city manager to find the ones that needed some entertanment, or I had to quit out of the city manager to be able to open the national manager - select the next unhappy city, open city manger, add entertainer - quit - repeat.
And they could of at least made new wonder movies...

The new message system is a little bit annoying.
I too preferred the messages to pop up on the left of the screen. No need to to read them if you didn't want too. But now even if you do want to read them you have to open a seperate window. Not a major problem just frustrating.
Another thing is that they have taken away the zoom to next available unit button! WHY. I don't know how many times I miss a unit each turn! Finding that vey difficult to get the hang of!

The thing about the messages doesnt disturb me that! Only I think its a waste of clicks to click on the message to see its full content. Most, or most important messages could display its full content in this one line and a Click on this message could result in a zoom to the specific object.
And that zoom should WORK!!! Now, when I hit zoom and then close the message and change to the city tab the previous selected city is shown and not the current one. It seems as if zoom just centers the map but doesnt really select this city.
