hmm well I'll post my score. I used to think they were pretty good until I seen the hall of fame.
4160 score. 333% on King level (I'm on emporer now but can't get anywhere near that score). don't know home much my science city was, but nowhere near 1400. It takes too long for me to get my science city rolling. I always end in fundy anyways. This is without rolling up the score with population. I can't stand barbarian attacks when I control the world- so I just max up my spaceship and send it off.

Growth, growth, growth. Max cities up to the limit of (from memory) 256, We Love The King Days, supermarkets, sending food caravans backwards and forwards, and so on and so on.
Methinks you might only bother doing it once, though. I did. Gets a bit tedious.

A max score is a pain, but you have to do it at least once. The plan is to conquer the world quickly except one city. Then fill every available space on the map with cities and grow the population to the max. land a max spaceship in 2020. Deity and raging hordes scores more. Look ar the hall of fame for some examples.

It's really a shame, but i must admit that i ended ONE of my games 2019 ad . I cannot really remeber all events, but i guess i had 320 000 000 about 1850 or so. Future techs goes from #1 when you reach #132 (mebbe i missed exactly number but not too much though). AI's defence was still Pikeman
I think i ended with 9982 or sumthin like that. Now i know i could do it much better, but there's not enough money on the world to compensate that 'borin my ass' feeling during that damned game.
Score sucks
Take care.

The keys to a large population are:
1. Pyramids
2. Get refigeration early and use it immediately.
3. WLTPD.
If the game is well under control, it also help to put your settlers on autopilot. They will tear down all of the trees and hills and turn everything into productive grassland. You can do this yourself, of course, but putting them on autopilot helps speed things up.

Hey WonderDawg,
Only thing I'd change is I don't terraform when doing the record population thing. I ship the engineers off in boats of 3 or 6 to found 1 or 2 island or coastal cities using the join command. Then I buy harbors/aqueducts/sewersystems/masstransit at the appropriate times. Maybe a colleseum if the happy factor isn't compensated by the ridiculusly high luxury tax.
Many happy WLTPD's to you.
