1st off, I have 2 games going. Both are saved and I flip back and forth between them. When I tried to load one, I found that all the settings had been changed to those of the other game. What happened?

2ndly, when you use the "Target Nuke" function, is it suposed to make a noise or display something? If so what am I doing wrong to not have it work?

This was, to say the least, extremely helpful. Thanks a million.

One question though. How did you know what Ctrl-G did?

I've got Direct X 8.0 but when I try to play CTP II it says I need Direct X 7.0a and can't play without it. How can I fix this?

I just purchased CTPII, and I have not been able to play it yet. I can't get throuh one turn. I move my settler, and when I hit End of Turn, I get an invalid page fault error and get bounced out to the desktop. I've read the posts, and I haven't come across anything that could help. I have a 700 MHZ Athlon, 128 M RAM, and a basic 8M ATI video board. The movie at the beginning runs fine. I have disabled all animations. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Hi!

When I try to patch my CtP II v1.0 to v1.1, the install program says it can't run since my OS is using the wrong language.

I run Windows 98 v4.10.1998 (Swedish edition) and on my CTP2 CD it says "Call to Power II, Made in EU, Activision, 30013.101.UK" (the game is in English).

Are there anyone who can help me?

/MiK

I am not shure if this will help you. I read other people having this problem so I am not installing direct x 8. so i only can say is uninstall it. i am not shure how you do it cause i installed it but had to use my windows me to go back to anthor days setting.

IF you dont have windows me i am not shure what you can do except to cry or reformat your hard drive and install everything from scratch and not install direct x 8. (wich i did alot before i got windows me)

I finally got this game to work. I wanted to post my solution in case it could help others who were having the same problem. I think it's ridiculous that I have to go through this to play a game. I still think the game was a rush job. I was able to get the game to play by adjusting the audio acceleration to basic. This is done in Control Panel - Multimedia - Advanced Settings. Drag the acceleration bar to the second notch from the left. Also make sure there are no programs running in the background.

Did you try to load your saved game from within another game or did you try to load from the Main Menu?
The patch should get rid of that problem as several other save game bugs were fixed. Was that the first time you tried to reload and did it happen with any other save game files.

Firstly never load a game from within another game quit to the main menu then load up your second game luckily i heard of this before i bought the game and have never done it and i've experienced no bugs with it. The patch 1.1 is supposed to remove this bug so download that.

Secondly I've only experienced Nukes (oh drool) in the nuclear detente scen. and in that your not supposed to be able to change their targets anyway.I haven't gotten up to nukes in any of my games yet though i am close, so i wouldn't know.

Hello there no your questions haven't been asked before and always ask questions it helps me think of different small mods to make.
1:There is a way.In BuildingBuildLists.txt you can set what buildings your mayor(and the AI) build. If they can't build any they build units.Try adding whatever buildings you want them to build in whatever categories.

2:what seems to work is if you check repeat track off then after closing the window go straight back into it.
it should then play random tracks.unfortunetly you haveto do this every time you resart the game

3:dunno haven't got that far. haven't heard of it.

I made a mistake in wartime of conquering too many cities, and I now have 52 under my control, whereas my recommended maximum is 45.

I need to stop fighting because it is making my citizens very unhappy, and I am also feeling very vulnerable because I am mobilising all my garrisoned units to help the war effort; so I decided to use recently captured cities as a bargaining tool in getting cease-fires signed.

However, the list of cities appears to be in chronological order, and the cities I wish to surrender, my most recent acquisitions, do not appear on the list. I have tried to scroll down, Page Down etc etc, but nothing seems to work.

All help appreciated

The only thing I can think of is RENAMING your city that you will remeber or like ROME1 with the number so you know when it was captured orr WRIGHTING it on a piece of paper and then looking for it.

Hope this helps.

Hey there. Thanks for the replies. I am only playing with 8 players.

I tried loading while in a game. I tried loading by exiting a game. I tried loading by exiting the game, shutting the computer off. Wait a min, start up the computer and load the game. to no avil it did not work so I just started a new game. I have uninstalled the game and reinstalled is a seconded time with the patch and so far have had no problems. My problems started around turn 274 and right now i am at turn 100 so hopefully it wont happen again. IF it does I will post again.

Hello All,

I just bought CivII yesterday and tried installing it on my system. When I go to play the game, the screen first changes to black, then switches back to the desktop and minimizes, a couple of seconds later I get a "Illegal Operation" error by windows and the game shuts down.

I've installed DirectX 8.x and WinMedia Player in the hopes that this would help, but no dice. This is really frustrating considering I just paid $70.00 Can for the game. Please help whoever can.

Thanks

I have the same problem. Pretty lame it doesn't recognize a newer version.

It works anyway, though. Just don't start the game from the CD. Have the CD in the drive, but start the game from the Start menu. Then I have had no problems (at least with this part).

The problem is not remembering the name, it is being able to offer the city over.

It does not appear on the list that comes up, so I can't offer it.

well Davor did hit on something...

Try renaming the cities you want to trade "A", "A1", "A2" etc. etc. and then you can trade them off.

There is a definite problem with that sort of thing which has been discussed in detail lately.

Yes, this would work if it were in alphabetical order, but the list is in chronological order. Almost all the cities on the list are my own created ones, or if not, then are central to my empire.

The new ones I have conquered, after years of bombing and missile bombardment, are small, insignificant and mostly long distances from my empire, and in the middle of enemy territory, so getting rid of them is an advantage anyway, until I can build up a stronger military to hold onto them.

I can't disband them because they are too large; I have toyed with the idea of starving them to death until they reach size 3, but they are too valuable a bargaining tool for me to do that.

On the tech chart it says it gives $500. Is this a one time boost? in the great library all it says it gives the host empire a cash influx. I took that as every turn. I built it once and seemed to only get $500 and thats it. Not worth the time to build in my opnion.

Am I right or wrong?

"CTRL-g" is printed on the back cover of the CTP II manual listing keyboard shortcut keys.

Like everyone else, I was trying to figure out the science victory. Just for added info, in my game I built 37 satellites and 46 obelisks (on a large map) and still only got an effective radius of 8 from the obelisks. I trtied building more than 10 controllers but the game only recognizes the first 10 and the extras don't seem to help. You can put obelisks, just as with any other public work, in any ALLIED territory as well as your own. I "discovered" that late in the game, and would have been helpful building my road networks seeing as I had 2 Allies.

Cheers Darkknight !

Installing in Z-drive, how would that work ? The problem is that I get a message something like "CTPII has detected Windows NT 4.0 on your system. CTPII required Windows 95,98 or 2000" which appears before I even have the chance to run the setup or choose where to install it

Does anyone else know about this Z drive installation, or any other getaround ?

Thanks,
neilr ...

One-time bonus. Instead go for The Great Wall/Ramayana. Pays off big time.
