Why the hell does Microprose have to be in on the project for Civ3 to be good? Firaxis is doing all the work. Microprose just publishes it. The only input they have is their 'veto' power for stuff that might not fit their idea of what the game rating should be, etc.

Actually, thanks to the presence of the Russians on the border of Russia and the fact that they beat the snot out of the Japanese in 1938-39, the Pacific War was a little easier for us Americans. Considering how difficult the fighting was, it's kind of a scary thought. A number of Japan's best troops were left in Mongolia and we didn't up having to face them. One of the considerations in dropping the bomb was the fact that we expected those troops would be moved to mainland Japan and would have made an invasion extremely costly, much worse than D-Day.
The Russians may not have contributed to the Pacific through fighting, but there presence was extremely significant.

But the Aussies had to hold off against the "pride of the Japanese army" to majorly overwhelming odds in Papua New Guinea for almost a year and a half before the yanks could organise themselves to come over. If we hadn't of held the Japanese off at the Kakoda Trail in 1942 then the US wouldn't have had a chance of stopping them after Australia fell.
And if the Australian SAS (Commandos really) hadn't have helped the yanks out in Vietnam, then thousands of yanky soldiers would be dead/captured.
Oh, and don't forget the Aussie Aces who flew over England during the Battle of Britain, and the Aussies who slaughtered the Germans in France in WWI, and the million Turks that 20,000 Aussies wiped out at a pass in Palestine in WWI, and....., and......
The US a good army? PFFFFT! The Aussies are better trained and prepared. There might not be many of us, but it'd be damn expensive to try and beat us.

Yeah, I have heard of the Australians. They did a very good job to the two world wars. They can only be compared, regarding the "small" countries, with the Greeks and the Israelis (generally, not only in WWI & II).

I have been trying to figure out whats up with this USA bashing. If an American says something the rest of the world doesnt like, we (useing the term loosely) are considered Arrogant. If the rest of the world has a complaint about the USA its A O K. There are many knowledgeble Americans just like there are many knowledgeable Europeans, Asians, ....etc. If the rest of the world would care to notice, Americans are proud of their WORLDY HERITAGE.....Chinese-American,Italian-American,Mexican-American,...etc. I understand we are the only Super-Power left but, over time these things change. U guys(the rest of the world),should seperate OUR Government's action from the average American Citizen. Oh yeah, thanks Western/Eastern Europe, U.K, Africa's many Nations, Middle East,Russia, Indian Sub Continent, & the rest of the world for their contributions (Immigrants, Science, & Money)to everyone's FAVORITE Cousin the good ol USA.

Actually, about the quote "History is written by the victors", here is an interesting point.
From the 1890s through the 1950s, Confederate organizations (Daughters of the Confederacy) dictated history cirriculum and glorified the dead Confederacy as a separate, legitimate nation that supported states' rights.
The truth has come out though. The Confederacy only supported states' rights when it served their interest. Note the Bleeding Kansas conflict when Missourian slaveholders sought to deny the non-slaveholding majority in Kansas a legitimate government. And the fact is that the Confederacy used the hypocritical states' rights as a facade - they really fought the Civil War to preserve slavery.
So there you have it - in this incident, history was written by the loser!

I have to agree somewhat with red_jon here. Certainly if the game had more of an ancient civilization focus (need a Medieval Mod), then there would be essentially no American wonders. I suppose in reaching into the future (unlike civ2), there is a heavy weighting (probably too heavy) on modern wonders, most of which appear to have been built by "Americans".
Personally, I liked the balance of ancient and modern wonders in civ2 and feel compelled to conquer the world before it gets too futuristic.

I made a simple point about the wonders in CTP2 being too unbalanced and it has turned into an international war (again )
NOTE TO (SOME) AMERICANS-
IF I SAY THAT IN CTP2 THERE ARE TOO MANY US WONDERS IT IS NOT AN INSULT TO YOUR COUNTRY. God
