Commerce, Gold, and Science
I am afraid I am still stuck in the CtP1 mindset, but I think I am missing some point regarding commerce.

What does commerce represent on the ranking chart? I usually am far behind in commerce (which, I would think, is somehow related to income in gold), but seem to always manage to keep up in science. This would not make sense if commerce = gold, so what exactly is commerce?

Economic ranking I believe also takes into account number and type of money making city improves, trade, profit after expenses (as opposed to income only), and trade treaties.

I thought that Commerce = Gold + Science... Even though that wouldn't explain exactly why with Science set to 100% I still get gold flowing into my coffers.

Gwap - some of the wonders give a gold rather than commerce bonus, possibly including Pyramids,That Spice Islands Ship One, The One About Data Protection and maybe even London Exchange; I'd have to go and check, but I can seem to generate 5-10k gold/turn as Virtual Democracy even with science @ 100%.

Do you use Merchants? (is that what the gold sepcialists are called?) That might be part of the reason.

Hmm, that appears to make sense, about the independent sources of Gold/Science. But building commerce tile improvements definitely helps your gold/science output doesn't it? If not, I'm even more confused than normal
