Display / DirectX Problems !!!
HELP!
I have been playing CTP2 for a week now, and at yr 2099. I am now having trouble loading my saved game(s). I can start the game and go to my saved files, then select one and push LOAD, the load bar comes up and gets to load the mini map and icon bar (bottom right), the load bar gets to about 97% then it crashes to the desktop when it is about to show the actual map on the screen. The error that comes up is as follows :
<< CTP2 HAS CAUSED AN INVALID PAGE FAULT IN MODULE MSVCRT.DLL >>
with a memory and stack dump with it. This is apparently a "Display" error.
I sometimes get the next error straight aftre the above
<< DDHELP HAS CAUSED AN INVALID PAGE FAULT IN MODULE KERNEL32.DLL >>
This error is apparently a DirectX error.
I have an Athlon 700Mhz with 256RAM GeForce 6800 and SoundBlaster Live Value!
I have reinstalled and updated (with verious veriations) My sound, graphics cards, DirectX 8.0/8.0a, have tried windows updates, have tried MS Library updates, all with no success.
HELP HELP HELP, what can I try next?
Any help would be much appreciated

I've had some problems with Dx8 in some other games. Maybe you should try an older version of Dx. The problem is that you'll have to reinstall your system to get rid of Dx8 (way to go Microsoft)...Or you could try using an unofficial Dx uninstaller. This, however, is not 100% safe, and may cause your sytem to crash.
You can find the unistaller here: http://www.tweaktown.com
Note that Dx 8 is not certain to be the problem.
Cheers

Hi guyz,
I have exactly the same problem, with the same hardware listing as dvnt11 except for the fact that I am currently running DirectX 7.0a and was hoping to load DX 8.0 to cure the problem....
Guess I'll have to do some more digging instead. Hope it's not processor related!

If it's the "exactly the same" with the error with MSVCRT.DLL, that specific file may be your problem. I actually had this problem with other applications I was running, come to find out some poorly behaved program I had installed (I never figured out which one) installed an older version of this file into my system folder. Or sometimes programs will install this file in other directories besides system, and Windows will get confused and load the wrong one. Try getting a copy of this file from another machine.
The most current version of the file (that I'm aware of) is dated 05/04/01 (m/d/y), and is identified as Product Version 6.10.8924.0
This may or may not be your problem, but since I had something similar lately (unrelated to playing a game, but similar none the less) I figured I'd throw out the cure I found.
