Ctp2 succession game: apolyton takes on the world!!
Herein lies the transcript of the history of the World according to Apolyton.. the greatest and most celebrated leader of all time. (In other words... a record of the cumulative history of all the players actions of our first Call to Power 2 Succession game!).
And so it begins....
It is the dawn of civilization. For many generations man has roamed the earth in restless tribes. But now, a particular tribe called THE GREEKS, lead by a genius of a leader known as APOLYTON, has built the first city; ATHENS.
Nestled in a great bend of a mighty river, Athens was founded in 4000 BC. For the next 140 years, she was utterly defenseless.
Not to worry, though. After that time, a regiment of warriors was commissioned to defend her.
By the year 3800 BC, the original regiment was utilized as an exploration unit while a new regiment was commissioned to replace them as defenders of Athens.
Around the year 3600 BC, the exploration unit discovered the remnants of an ancient city! Inside the city a band of settlers was persuaded to join us. Also around this same year our fledgling civilization discovered Bronze Working! Our first troop of Hoplites begins training.
It is now 3500 BC. The travelers we picked up 100 years ago (yeah, I know, they're old, maybe it's their grandkids now), have found the source of a new river to the southwest and are ready to build a new city. The regiment of exploration warriors are with them and ready to defend.
We are currently researching the science of Ballistics.
Since it's founding, Athens has tripled in population!
The people of Athens are basically content. They work very long hours, get paid very little, and don't have much to eat... but hey, that's life in the ancient age.
Prime Minister Skeeve (4000BC - 3500BC)

At present, Sean has the file now.
He is attempting to get it to work with his system.
If this cannot be done, Phoenixcager will pick up from the year 3500 BC where I left off.
LONG LIVE APOLYTON...
(it's not just a web-site anymore... Now it's an empire)
Edit: Sean - Keep trying with your file even if we skip you. If you can figure out what's wrong, we can come back to you in round 2.

well nuts, I'm not going to be home from the fifth to the 8th (I'll be in Canada without a laptop) so that means no gaming for me. Just skip my first turn and it will all work out (I hope). If for some reason the game has still been passed on to me, wait until the 9th or 10th of this month and I'll get the game on its way. That is all and goodbye!

I've received the game. So I guess I'll play it and send it to the player after Octavius III.
edit: I'm trying to figure out what to do with the file...does it have to be renamed?

Phoenix,
First make sure the file is not zipped. (It wasn't when I sent it, but some internet software automatically zips files).
Then create a directory called "Apolyton" within your CTP/SAVE/GAMES directory. Then copy the file into Apolyton. That should work.
(You will know you did it right when the folder shows up when you go to 'Load Game' after CTP2 starts up).
I sure hope this works, I was starting to get concerned when Sean couldn't get his to work. If yours doesn't work too, this is sure going to be one short succession game!
Edit: Oops, forgot to answer your question... no it doesn't have to be renamed. It should not have any effect.

Well, I tried all kinds of stuff, but I couldn't get the game to work. Anyone has any other ideas or wants to see what they can do with the file?

Send it on to me. I'll see what I can do with it. I'm next after OctaviusIII anyway.

Starting from scratch is okay with me.
Sean, you could send me the first 20 turns of your own game, if I get it to work, I could then pass it on to Phoenix, and so on.
Beats me what happened to my file. Phoenix sent me a sample game of his own and it worked on my system.
Curiouser and curiouser...

I believe the game style you are trying will work....IF no one has ANY MODIFIED files whatsoever on their CTP:2 game files. I often do a very similiar setup..start an MP game where I would start at Modern then click and drag from that directory to single player offline and it worked fine. I would suggest you all make sure that NO modifications have been done at all. I tried playing an MP game recently , and with all my modifications all we did was resynch..
Just a thought to ponder my fellow civers!

Troll,
I have suspected this too. As such I am inclined to agree with you, as it rings true. Skeeve, what do you think? I have not modified my version of CTP II, so it can not be me.

I have only one slight modification..the one line change that allows hotseat/PBEM.
I doubt this is the problem.

Nope.
In fact, I totally re-installed before I started our game.
Shall we start over? Sean, you could go first, and send the file to me.
It seems our succession game is off to a rocky start.
Don't lose heart, fellow players, a string of failures is usually a prelude to success!
(I bet someone has a quote (sig) with that line).

I sent Skeeve a game file to kick things off. However, he hasn't got back to me, or posted on this forum.

Hi Folks,
I'm Back. Sorry for taking so long. Had some guests over Easter weekend.
Just got my mail and on to this website today.
Sean... yep, I got the file. Haven't tried it yet because I'm at work. (For some reason they frown upon playing CTP2 here. Go Figure!)
Anyway I shall try it tonight!! I sure hope it works.
It will be great once this thing gets rolling.
Thanks for your help, there Troll.
I hope you had a good celebration of resurrection Sunday.

Good news to report!
I received the file from Sean and it works!
Due to some mundane interupptions, I am not finished with my 20 turns yet. I will send the file on to Octavius when done.
Sean, please go ahead with your summary.
Edit: Actually, Phoenixcager was before Octavius on the list.

Hi smellymummy,
The first round was actually closed on March 30th, but as you may guess, we've had a few problems getting this off the ground. It seems to be working now, however.
If it moves smoothy from here on, you can be player #10, otherwise, it may be best to wait for round 2. I think we'll have a round 2. Make sure you have installed the patch. The succession game seems to have the most problems with transfers from patch to non-patch versions.

I forgot his name; but I figured he'd be #9.
Sorry, I meant to communicate that.

My sentiment exactly...
Maybe we should try a succession game in which each player is required to offer the computer a free city during each "reign"!
I bet we'd still conquer all!

Smellymummy...
If you still want to be player #10, please send your e-mail address to Octavius III.
His address is Octaviusiii@yahoo.com.
We now have 10 players. No additional players will be allowed to join until round 2.
Congratulations everyone. We finally got this thing rolling!
