Keb, I've never heard of that error message before. Did you by chance download any modification files (mods)? Do you have the patch loaded?
Are you running other programs on your computer while playing CTP2?

I know, a lot of questions and no answers. But I (we the forum) need to know your entire environment while playing the game.

One point though, I've noticed that my game will crash if I have my Norton Antivirus running at the time I'm playing. To be safe, look in your System Tray and shut down or turn of/exit all programs except the Volume and mouse (if its listed in there). Then try running CTP2 again.

The GU02.SPR is one of the unit sprites. It should be in "ctp2_data\default\graphics\sprites" folder. It is probably one of the early units and when you research the tech associated with it, your game crashes cause it can't find the unit sprite. You may have to uninstall and install the game again.

I to found that Nortons crash. I got the "blue screen of death" and was surprised to see the culprit was the NAVDX and not ctp2. Now my game hardly ever crashes.

Thats odd, cos as far as I know, GU02.spr isn't used. The settler uses the sprite number 2 (newsprite.txt) but that is GU002.spr.

Gu02.spr is CTP1 settler sprite, that is not used in CTP2.

strange...

What a conincedence. The only thread I find while searching for "asset tree" in the forums is this one and it's only days old.

I have probably played about 4 hours total with my copy of my CTP2. Last night I was looking at all the new Civ 3 stuff and I got inspired (God knows why) to give CTP2 another shot.

I had run it on my own machine before with no worries, but seeing as I had my brother's P2 433 running 98 with 128Mb RAM here, I decided I'd install it on that instead. Sure enough, it crashed twice within 10 minutes with these "asset tree" errors. Sorry I didn't write down which files, but I know that they were both different.

I believe my brother does have an Antivirus prog running... I'll try to reinstall, add the patch and see how I go. Most likely I'll be downloading a mod within a couple of days.

Well, I perservered with my brother's PC and got nowhere. I did however manage to get a variety of sprite errors citing different files. I did a reinstall as both maximum and minum, but no luck. I shut down most of the thing srunning in the systray, but still no good.

Eventually I just put it on my own little PII 233 with the 2Mb video card, and it ran without error.

Incidently, I'm enjoying my game at the moment. I'd probably say I've got about $5-10 value so far of the $80 I payed for the thing. Fingers crossed.

$80 - Thats extortionate !! I'd never pay that sort of money for anything (broke student that I am) let alone something with the reputation of CTP2. Damn you Activision, you take our money, and go bust anyway...

CIV 3 inspired you to try CTP2 again!?
That's gotta be a first. I know what you mean though... the craving to play a civ game is so strong sometimes we'll try anything to satisfy it!

Yeah, pretty much.
That and the fact that I want to try getting my money's worth.
And I know I'll most likely never go back to it once Civ 3 is out, so I better try getting my moeny's worth soon.

Hi Wittlich! I CAN POST! Four months without posting then DanQ helped me.
I've heard that NAV can slow the game down a lot before but not kill it.I've been away for quite a while though. I've got NAV running fine when I'm playing CTP2 so maybe it's Win98 + NAV = Crash I dunno.

Surely that's 80 Australian dollars? That would be about 40 American dollars, a normal price for a (brand new) game. Whether or not that's too much, I'm not even gonna think about (esp. not since I got the game for free )
